Hello, I recently purchased an S12 with a Ca18DET, the previous owner did a wiring job worse than 3 year old. Everything was spliced with everything, there was tape everywhere.. everything was nasty, sticky, gooey, and just downright disgusting. So, I put in a new harness. The problem is, I get fuel, spark, power to the ECU, this and that. But, the car won't start! I've noticed when I try and run a diagnostic check on the ECU the red and green light just stay on and nothing else. I know the ECU isn't fried because I have the ECU power wire fused with a 10 amp. I'm really frustrated and stumped, I need some  helppppp!

Thanks.

Was it running before you put in the new harness?

Yes

You say it gets fuel & spark.  Does it fire at all/try to run or just turn over with no sign of ignition?

It turns over with no sign of ignition. I have the ignition wire from the ECU black/red relayed, so it's getting power.

If you have fuel getting to the rail and good spark seen at the plugs, then my guess is your injectors are not working.  There's a way to check those with a test light, that's what I would suggest next. I assume you are using the same ecu and the only thing changed was the harness. Did the harness come from the same year car with  the same motor?
Review this post, it may help.

Try starter fluid yet or a little gas in the intake?  If it fires it tells you a fuel delivery problem.

Hahaha I know that feeling my wiring is the same way. I don't have any advice when it comes to this because I absolutely hate with a firey passion to do wiring lol Good luck

I think Rywire is making a ca18det harness now. either universal application meaning you wiring it into the car or specifically for S13. Which is easier is up to you. I would go universal assuming they still offer it.

theres possibly other companies out there doing the same thing. just google it

yeah wiring specialties does one for the s13...

NolanS12Jun 23, 2013, 3:50 pm · #10

Okay, so I can use a Wiring Specialties harness, what will I need to change over? Also, my main body harness is all hacked up, and the fuse box has been torn out.. by the previous owner, he was a real moron...

Should I go about getting a new body harness/fuse box?

Idk if it matters, but my car is an 85' Turbo model.

If I were you, I'd get a new fuse box just to keep everything stock to where you can reference it with S12 material. As for the main harness, I would try to save it first if possible because I think the (stock) wiring harnesses/ECU's in turbo cars are highly year specific and you'd have to find one near the same as yours. On the other hand, I have a wiring harness in my '85 turbo that I might be able to sell.

EDIT: Just realized you were doing a CA18DET swap, don't think having the same harness will matter.

I already have the engine in the car, and the wiring harness for a ca18det in there, I need the original S12 85' Turbo fuse box, and body harness.
