was wondering if i was able to give someone a VIN#, if they would be able to find out what the rear diff ratio is? its from a z31 at a scrapyard, but the guy doesnt remember what year it was or whether it was turbo or not and what ratio it is :/
check the data tag on the firewall. the name of the rear end contains 1 or 2 letters and 2 numbers. those two number are the diff ratio. XX37 is a 3.70 rear end, XX41 is a 4.11 etc
If the 4th digit in the VIN is C, it's turbo. If it's H, it's NA. A few digits later, you should see S followed by X or 0-9, then E, F, G, H, J, or K. Depending on that digit, it's 1984-89 respectively.
