The air conditioning / over-temperature electric fan (just behind the front grill) on my 86 notch (ca20e) is, and always has been,  VERY noisy.  I want to replace it with the quietest alternative a junk yard or new, low-cost replacement can provide.

Can anyone recommend  what to look for that has worked well for you?  I'm in Florida so an increase in efficiency would be helpful too if possible.  Air temperature at the vents is consistently at 42 degrees and keeps the car cool without problems but the fan makes more noise than the engine!   Anybody found a surprisingly quiet unit?

Thanks for any first-hand advice you can pass along.  Summer is almost here.  Going to the yard Saturday.  :-)

Did you ever take the fan motor apart? It's a simple thing, maybe it just needs some lube. I opened mine years ago when it stopped working and found the brushes shot. I was able to match some up and it's been working fine ever since. Kind of a weird motor, flate as a CD disc. If not, then you should be able to find something that will work. I am in Louisiana and depend on that AC working for sure.

this is all up to your budget and preference on wat u consider loud ...remember the more air moving the more noise ...unless your a dyson fan..lol
