What car do you have? If it's all stock then turbos got 4.11 R200, CA20s got 4.11 R180 except in 84 with the H190 SRA and the SE got 3.90 R200.

No offense intended, but you are obviously not doing enough reading, on here or even on the web. Did you even notice that there is a wikipedia entry for S12 under "Nissan Silvia"? All of our rear end information is there.

Also, there is a LOT of information on this site here about what you can and can't do with which rear end. People have asked these sorts of questions over and over and over, so search and you will find it discussed many times.

It's not a dumb question you're asking. It's just one you could find the answer to pretty quickly. I'm not bothered that you're asking questions, but I'm just hoping to encourage you to use the search feature and read the stickied (pinned) topics at the top of every section. Get to know what people have been asking about and what people have done that warrants us keeping it up top, then ask more questions.

When I was new to the DSM community, I called one of the more popular DSM tuner shops with a bunch of questions. After about five or so minutes of that, the guy interrupted me and told me I had a lot more reading to do. I still remember what he said to this day: "You... You need to do a LOT more reading. A lot. So go read on the archives and call me back in a month or so when you know what to ask."

I was embarrassed but I hung up and did what he said. A month later, I knew the right questions to ask. He remembered me. Smart guy, had a lot of good ideas. But I had to learn the "language" of the car first before I knew how to talk possibilities.

The S12 is no different. Get to know it. Don't expect a quick answer. The best information you could possibly want or need has already been detailed on this site in one or more discussion threads. Every other good question is gonna be more specific, or more likely, about opinions. Or new stuff. Because most of the facts have already been covered before and in full.

Just something to consider.

It's not that you offend me personally.... it's that your attitude towards this site.or car forums is like you don't really care about whatever work has gone into the discussions here. If I translate what you've just said, it's that you.feel you are too good to read the answers for.yourself. You might as well lift your middle finger at us. It's like you don't care about how the info was obtained.

Frankly sir I am saddened by your attitude. I'm not only offended but disappointed. My only saving grace with this is that I know most.peopledle respect what we have here and genuinely appreciate it.

Asking emergency questions is one thing, but this... this just makes me sad. After ten years of being here, nobody has disappointed me in this way before.

Look, the forum is open to the public even if people aren't logged in. And we have way more S12 information than any other site. You're welcome.to peruse it all you want, but don't expect us to hold your hand. Your finger isn't broken, use it to click the search button.

I'm Glad it was you Arro that said something because I most likely would be temp banned for what I wanted to say or at the very least have my post deleted lol...

Snap well said arro...
and the ratio im after is 3.54:1 from a z31 just my opinion though

ArroMar 18, 2013, 12:20 am · #9

It just touched a nerve in me.

silvertonMar 18, 2013, 12:50 am · #10

ZOMG EMERGENCY!!!!  All this danged readin and written is too much fer me, er... I mean you.

FYI, your differential gearing is on the data plate under your hood on the firewall.

Not 100% what your final drive ratio has to do with choosing a limited slip, but okay?

turbo-s12Mar 18, 2013, 12:55 am · #11

maybe getting an lsd and wants to change the ratio at the same time?

ArroMar 23, 2013, 3:10 am · #12

the 3.9 found in the SE's is perfect for those who want more power from say a well-tuned SR or turbo'd KA, RB, etc. Otherwise, the 4.11 from the turbo cars is great for those who, say, just want to swap in a KA24DE and leave it at that.

haha you beat me too it. the funniest part of the whole debate is how pointless it was to begin with. info is right there on the car

Lol!

turbo-s12Mar 24, 2013, 10:36 pm · #15

4.11 with the ka sucks imo gears are too short and rpms are to high on the freeway

ArroMar 25, 2013, 1:19 am · #16

I don't own my S12's based on how well they cruise on the freeway lol. I own them for performance. 4.11 with my DE is great stuff.
