Swapping a silver top head to a black top block?

I went and blew my head gasket and the head is warped beyond whats machinable, at the same time I have the chance to buy a head from a silvertop ca20e for $50. I don't expect there to be any complications, but I am still relatively new to s12's.

I understand that the heads are the same casting, but the lifters are different somehow. Can I swap the heads without doing any rewiring or modifications?

In short, yes. The timing will be slightly different. What the difference is I don't recall. But it will work.

Just a difference of hydraulic vs mechanical lifters.

Excellent. And there isn't any rewiring to do?

Nope... Not unless you want to swap to MK2 electronics too.

I swapped an 86 silvertop (block & head) to my 85, just used the 85 intake man and dist per Jay's write up, no wiring changes, started right up.  Mine runs better timed at 6 to 8 advanced vs specs 4 advanced.

Okay, I will keep that in mind. All of this information is excellent!
