i have been reading everything on wheel and  tire combos on this forum.  i am ordering a set of custom wheels on Monday. These wheels are being made to my spec so i cant get this wrong or i am screwed and out a lot of money. this is a SE of course with the suspension built back to original specs it is not lowered. i really want to run a 9" rim in the back is this possible with setting the offset anywhere i want it. and i want to run a 7" up front i can choose between a 16" or 15" rim. i do not want any stretch or balloon affect.

Keep in mind that anything over a 225 is pretty much non-existant in 15s.

Id go for a 15x7+15 up front with a 205/55 tire, and 15x8+20 with a 225/50 for the rear. If its still a bit sunk, you can order some cheap 10mil slip on spacers.

A 9" wheel in the back will NOT fit without camber/slight stretch, unless you get fender flares.

I run 285s on the 15" wheels on the rear of my TA.  Choices are limited but they can be found with little fuss.  They would look better on a 9" wide wheel but they don't balloon too bad on the 8".  Not enough to look forced.  At least not in my opinion.

Go 16's i think it fills up a bit better. and a x9 is doable it just all depends on your offset. I am planning on getting my enkei 92's widened by 9's in the rear to get a wider tire back there

cutter i run 23x9x15 slicks on the rear of my 86 18et on stock 240sx wheels which have a +42 offset and i run two 3/8" spacers and they are sunk and on major hard acceleration corners they will rub on the inside and are nowhere near the fender lip. my buddy runs the same tire on a 15x7 o et and has his sitting right in the middle of the wheel well he is pretty lowered so if you are stock height then you should be able to fit that 9" wide wheel no prob. please keep us informed as i also would like to see how they fit when you get them on they sound badass with being custom.
