With a fresh charged battery, my car will crank and start nicely, After a while the car just shuts off after which point it will nolonger sstart, but it will crank and crank. Im guessing that my alternator is not up to par and isn't keeping enough volts to open the fuel injectors. Is there anything else that may cause this?

Alternator does not dictate injector power. Battery voltage does.

If the alternator is not charging the battery to above 10v, yes. The injectors will not work and it might still crank but it will be languished.

IF it's cranking fine as if the battery is not low and it's voltage is sitting pretty at 12-14v after it dies. It's likely the ignition module.

Okay, Where is the ignition module located on these cars? I am fresh to them. If i had spark while cranking would that disprove the faulty ignition module theory?

IF you have spark after it dies from driving, for the most part, yes.

It's located in the distributor.

It's a common thing for ignition modules to fail when heated up to temperature but operate fine when cold. IE, after driving a little bit. So when a car dies after driving a little bit, that module is instantly my goto.

Make sure you have spark when it's warmed up. Then you can for the most part check it off the list, but not cross it off the list. It still could be a culprit.

my 85 did this when the distributer ignition module went bad. Started great cold, then died like turning off the key when it warmed up, then started again when cold. What year, what motor?

Its an 85 with a ca20e

I havent been out to the farm to work on it recently. Lat time I went to work on it It died at idle, i IMMEDIATELYdropped in a new battery and it started first crank (before swap it cranked and cranked and cranked). It had maybe 5 minutes to cool down. Il check for spark next time im there
