I set my computer/ecu to diagnostics mode and recorded a video of the codes. Can some one help in translating the flash codes ?
I am having idle problem mostly.

you have 5 seperate modes....when the red and green flash once[mode 1], turn the screw and leave it to read that mode..turn screw back, and when it flashes red and green twice[mode 2] turn the screw back to keep it in mode two....and so on and so on....you'll get the hang of it.

Thanks for the tip.  I noticed 1 red flash and 3 green flashes(error 13); however, the sensor for the engine coolant has been replaced already. The car does not stuble or die unless the gas is shitty or low. Thankfully some fresh gas stopped the incesant stubling that I "was" having. I will admit that the wiring for the engine coolant temp sensor is brittle, maybe an inconsistent circuit or a short ?

at this point, if you clear out the codes and 1-3 keeps turning up, its probaly the harness....replace it....i would check the resistance on the CHTS just to be sure and  its very easy if you have a multimeter..

I inspected the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor wiring, one of the connectors was loose. I am cleaning it and will reconnect it shortly.

Cleaned the connections associated w/ the CHTS. Still throwing error 13; however, the idle is better and the engine no longer stalls. I will check the resistance.

I need to correct myself and provide a better history/background info. I purchased the car used at approx 180,000 miles in 2001.

Previous owner was a master Nissan tech, so all parts were still OEM :).. The car ran excellent, no problems with idle or what not. The transmission died in 2008 and it sat out behind the shed out in the country for approx 4 years. I would start it up for about 30 minutes every other month or so, did not notice the idle problem.

In 2009, I pulled a truck transmission from a 87 or 88 Pathfinder, installed it no problem except for some metal grinding that had to be done. Its a beefy transmission FS5R30A. The rear flange was customized in order to fit with the Isuzu Trooper driver shaft :). Cool, no freaking carrier bearing!

Nowadays, the car will fire up just fine when cold, no problems. After warming up, the VG will idle down to about 800 rpm. I can let it idle in the parking spot for 30 minutes, no skipping in the idle or hesitation.
As soon as I get on the street, the car will act like its running on only 4 out of 6 cylinders. Car runs rough, then it will correct itself.

Once I get past 2500 to 3000 RPM on the highway, the engine operates smooth as silk. There seems to be a pattern where even if I am on the highway cruising at 65 MPH, the VG will act like its going to stumble and a slight loss of power occurs for about 3 to 5 seconds. I drop to 62 mph, then power will then return and im back to 65 MPH.
I have reset the ECCS several times ;however, code 13 keeps coming up over and over. Sometimes, code 12 appears but then disappears after driving it on the highway for about 20 to 30 minutes.

I have replaced all the basics including spark plugs, cap, rotor, filter, wires, CTS (autozone aftermarket), oil and a full tank of gas. The MAF was replaced several years prior to the tranny problem; however, the MAF is from a 88 Maxima.

There is a remote possibility of the Maxima MAF cuasing issue, but I would have seen this before the tranny failure.

Thanks for reading. I have not done the resistance test yet BTW.

LOL, a new wiring harness is 1200.00 dolls.

ive never heard of using an 88 maxima maf, thats probably your problem right there

fixed the idle problem.
I pulled the battery, reset the computer.
reconnected the battery, set the timing a bit over advanced.
Let the car warm up, idled for 30 minutes. No misfire, idled fine at 1100 to 1200 rpms.
shutoff the car, adjusted the timing to a bit over advanced. Fired up the car, now idling at 900 to 950 rpm w/ no misfire or richness.

All this time, i was setting the timing to be too lean, so the computer overcompensated with more fuel I figure.

What is odd is that the computer is still bitching about the AFM. Oh well, the serial codes on the original 200sx MAF vs Maxima are very similiar.
As I said 5 years ago in this same forum, the 88 or 87 Maxima MAF will work but the computer seems to take a slight offense!
