Finally decided to ditch the whole KA-T swap plan and just do an SR swap (much cheaper and simpler in the long run). Question now is that I live in the south and rolling with out AC is not an option. I wanted to see if anyone tried to get it to work.

Anyone have A/C on a SR20DET swap?
A better question would be if anyone has AC in their S12!
It should be pretty straight forward to hook the compressor to the S12's lines, if they have the same fittings.
Though a automotive HVAC shop should be able to get it running (which you would likely have to go to anyway, since you need the system charged).
air conditioning on an sr, thats about the the most backward way of tuning ive ever seen. But hey at least you will be cool while looking cool =P
A/C is for weenies.
Yesterday was 92 here in FL, so AC is a must. It doesn't rob that much power, if your motor puts out enough it doesn't matter. I had my AC on my SE when i was in GA. The only thing to remember is late 80's cars has R-12 freon you will need to convert to R-134A. If your worried about power keep hand tools in the car, which is a must anyway and take your belt off when its nice outside.
My ca18et s12 didn't have ac when I bought it. A month later I went to the pull a part and sourced everything but the dryer and compressor (which I bought reman). Now it blows 45 degrees all day with r134a and all. Ga is too damned hot. Especially in a turbo car. Say what you want.

I always laugh when people say things like this. Different climates call for different luxuries/amenities needed.
I'm a huge A/C fan. It makes long trips much more enjoyable.
same here man in my ca18det swap in my s12 i have full a/c components, the onlything i need to figure out is what wire i hook up to the s12 harness i know what wire on the cadet harness goes to a/c but i dnt know which one on my s12 harness, i had a/c in it before i did the cadet swap
i was the only one drifting in the the cool weather at drift events lol
That's cool...no pun intended.
lol AC
crank back the sunroof and put down the windows
no sunroof here sir :(

Whatever. You sweat your balls off if you want. It only saves what like 2 hp? I'm not driving any car w/o ac unless it's a track car which this isn't.

You say that because you live in San Diego. Why don't you stay up around my area for a week and see if it changes your mind about having ac? Heck you can come stay with me for the week and I won't even turn on the ac in my house while I'm at work just to see if "ac is for weenies".
Thanks for backing me up Silver.
So does anyone have any technical info on this or do I have to ask Arro to change the name of this thread to "is a/c for weenies?"
im with you 100%. if my s12 i had in highschool didnt have a/c that worked UNBELIEVABLY well, i would have scrapped it. The amazing thing was that i recharged the system with 134a while there was still r-12 in there and it worked fine for 6 years!
I have driven through Arizona for a week during triple digits and never used A/C. The 2 horses isn't what matters its saving that extra 25% of gas mileage during 4 dollar gas.
Sweating is good for you, cleans you out anyways.
lol hardcore SoCal guys but aircon rocks.
You guys and your Non-AC DD's make me giggle.
My E30's AC works perfectly. Wouldn't have it any other way

Gotta remember man, Wisconsin is the only state in the union to prohibit sales of R134 to the general public. Thanks to ATCP 136
I have a stockpile of it in my computer room from when it able to be purchased for that 6 or so months, never know when I'm going to need to recharge something. Your lucky, you can just hop the border and pick some up in about 30 minutes.

Yes, yes, I know it's a damn explorer and not an S12. But it's not a bad thing to hold across the board really. I don't need the A/C to be on all the time. I like rolling with my windows down. I do smoke after all
it might be 1mpg and 2hp, but the whole system line, evap, compressor and all must weight as much as I do... plus up here in Canada, I must turn it on on the mazda at least onces a month for the seals not to dry up... if I didn't have to do that, I'd flick the switch on maybe a week a year.... and it would be exactly time now... it's 35 celcius now and feels like 46 with the humidity in the air... (that's 95 and 115 for you guys that still use the Fahrenheit scale :P) but like maxpow said, sweating is good for you!
With that said, on my rolla, the engine drives only the essentials... an alternator and a water pump... everything else is for pussies :P

Unless you weigh as much as a 6 year old boy, It doesn't weigh as much as you. On an S13, the compressor is the heaviest part in at 20lbs. There is absolutely zero way it all weighs more than 45 lbs. It's pretty negligible, at best, for a DD. As for my E30, It's ALL less than 1% of the total weight of my vehicle. I lost more weight in my E30 stripping out the trunk tar, AND then adding my Sub.
Yes. I installed my system. Lost a little weight. And maintained my weight distribution.
So I guess that means nobody has done it. Guess I'll be the first pussy to try it. I love it when I get an ass load of replies that don't even answer the f'ing question. Thank you to all that get why a/c is important in different climates. Besides, there's no way I'm letting my 2 year old sweat to death in a 100 degree car. Again, if this was a track only car I wouldn't even be posting this shit.
i apologize my dear modz but this had to be done
Edited by moderators because of disrespectful asshattery.
Disrespecting other board members.I'm sure it's the same process as an s13 or s14. You'll need the stock s12 ac line and stock sr ac line on the driverside. An ac shop or welding specialty shop will have to cut off the two lines and weld the two lines together. Some bending of the hoses may be needed depending on your turbo setup.
I'll go through this same process once my s13 is tuned, I know ac isn't possible if I do plan to go top mount in the case that I don't like the power band of my current setup. Ac will be installed and working before next summer comes around if I decide to stick with my HKS GTRS turbo setup.
Uggg... You too newby?
1 day timeout. He wasn't addressing anyone, or all of us in particular. His post was very thought out and nice, and not attacking in any way.
Your was attacking him, DIRECTLY.
