So basically, I'm looking into putting an S12 Non-turbo gauge cluster into my N13 Pulsar NX. But I would need some info first.
Can anyone hook me up with the following?
Dimensions of the S12 cluster
Picture of the "Digital Gauge Cluster" Speed sensor (is it a cable driven one, or is it one with electrical wires?)
Pics of the back of these clusters
Basically, everything you would need when swapping from analog to digital. I've found a thread where the opposite was done, but it was of no help.
Let me know!
Also, a nudge in the right direction would be highly appreciated!

Digital Gauge Cluster Info
yup ill get pics later today for you and measurments i have a few of them
Awesome!
measurments (in inches and 1/16th increments)
TOP HOLE MOUNTING DISTANCE (10" 2/16)
BOTTOM HOLE MOUNTING DISTANCE (13")
CLUSTER DIMENSIONS
WIDTH (14") OF ENTIRE CLUSTER
HEIGHT (5" 3/16) OF CLUSTER ITSELF NOT INCLUDING MOUNTING TABS
DEPTH (2 9'16) AT DEEPEST PART
PICS: I took many photos for you as well as a side profile so u can get an idea of what the curvature (which is very minimal) looks like hope these help. if you need a cluster wiring for the cluster, the optical unit that interperts the speed + cable drive gear i have everything u need to make it work i can also suppy a wiring diagram to help aid in the installation so you can cross reference wires to a fsm specific to your car. let me know shipping wouldnt be terrible at all on any of these items. hope this helps you mate. cheers! justin @ LOW.XII.POSITION if i can assist you with anything else dont hesitate email me at [email removed] and we would be glad to help.

Thanks! I'll compare the lot! Good to see some communities still are active!
Here is one for a turbo S12:
The speed sensor is not a cable style, there is a small cylindrical sensor located in the engine bay, and a short speedo cable from the trans connects to the bottom of this sensor. From there, two or three wires run into the super multiple junction (SMJ) which then feeds into the ECU and the digital cluster. I'm not sure if the wires from this speed sensor go directly to the back of the cluster, or go to the ECU and the ECU reports to the cluster. Inn the case of most digital displays, sensors pass through a main processor (which would be the ECU in this case) and then on into submodules. Judging from the back side of the digital cluster, my money is on that.
This means that there is a possibility that the modules on the back side of the S12 digidash cluster are expecting a unique and nonstandard communication from the ECU, and aren't just controlled by voltage directly from sensors. This would also account for why the inside of the digidash has more than simple circuits, there are actual computer modules in there that look to be more than just LCD controllers.
The reason why it's easy for people to go from digital to analog is because most of the analog gauge controls are still direct: the analog speedo cable is longer so it goes directly up into the dash and to the back of the analog cluster, and most of the other readouts are simple.
I do know that the entire dash harness has to be swapped for the digital to analog conversion, but otherwise this is why it's easier to go one way and not the other.
Hmm, interesting.
The NX1600 Digital Cluster also uses a different signal. Instead of the standard 8 pulse the regular "electric speedo's" had, the Digidash used a 16 pulse speed sensor. This was the major culprit for speed issues on these swaps.
When doing the swap, you could just wire the speedo directly onto the cluster. The cluster then sends any speed related info to the ECU, and not the other way around.
I suspect this system to work the same.
The amount of pins on the backside of the cluster is indeed a frightening sight, but I think most of them have the same function (for example, the analogue NX cluster only had 1 Ground, 1 Ignition and 2 Illumination (pos and neg) wires, bu the digital cluster had 3 ign. wires, 2 ground wires, and 4 Ill. wires).
Is there a wiring diagram avaiable for this cluster?
As for fitting the cluster (if the dimensions even come close to the N13 one, it looks to be a little larger than the N13 cluster), the mounting tabs are probably useless. But I'm inventive, I can work around that.
EDIT: Also, what warning lights are present on these clusters? I think I saw some more warning lights mounted in a crevice in the main dash, is that correct?
No there is not, because Nissan didn't expect them to be serviceable. The FSM only details the wiring for the engine, chassis, and dash harness.
Hmm, really concerned about the warning lights... Can anyone confirm which ones are on the actual cluster?
If you're referring to the ones on the lower right hand corner...
From left to right: Brake, battery, door ajar, headlights popped up, and high-beams are on.
Hmm... Crap. That means the oil pressure light isn't there...
I gotta ask. The cars these clusters come from, do they have green icons on the other warning lights as well? Or are only the ones on the digital cluster green, and the rest orange?
Where is the warning light for the oil pressure mounted?
Anyone? Need to know!
The oil pressure sensor i think is on the Upper left of the gauge. Theres a button you press to switch different settings. IIRC the oil pressure "warning" is also with the oil pressure, but its jsut a little oil pan that blinks.
So that oil pressure warning light is also on the main cluster, and not mounted anywhere else? Would you happen to have a pic?
Yes. I'll take a picture here in a few.
Sweet!
Alright.
You can see next to the 9 that there is an oil Pan. When there is warning, this pan will Blink. And yes. It does blink regardless of if you are on Temperature or Oil Pressure
Sweet! Thanks, you just made my day! Now all I gotta do is find out the dimensions of the Pulsar's cluster.
Haha Anytime
Again, many thanks for your help, but I need 2 more measurements:
1: Height of the cluster
2: Width of the cluster
However, this time, it needs to be installed, with the trimmings in place. In other words: what are the dimensions of the visible part of the cluster when everything is in place?
Digital or analog cluster, doesn't matter to me, I just need to know the dimensions.
Found this:

May be of help, it's the full FSM for the Mk1 S12, and cluster is covered :)

Still need to know :P
Oops, nevermind, I've seen that it has been covered!
