Hi all.  Many of you might have seen me on here before or read my other build thread(http://club-s12.org/v3/index.php?topic=23766).  If not, my name is Waylon Deno.  I'm a wanna-be pro driver.  I spent most of 2010 drifting a ca18det powered 85 S12 hatch.  All work done by myself and a couple close friends here and there of course.  Heres what it looked like

Its an 84 with ca20e, auto trans, and solid axle. Plans are to do the suspension, 5 speed conversion, weld the diff and rag on the stock motor til it cries for mommy.
Then it'll get this

VH45DE, 4.5 litre V8. Picked up this 94 Q45 the other night. Was wrecked as u can tell.  Motor runs great though.  You can even still drive it if u dont mind tires rubbin so bad u can only do 5mph hahaha.  3 of 4 corners have bent suspension.  Picked it up for so cheap it should be illegal.. but the title checks out hehe.

Well anyways thx for checkin out my new build thread.  Hopefully this car will be a lot of fun.

Hittin the bottle to help deal with the ongoing pain of that tragic day haha. On the bright side your new project is gonna be way more awesome in my opinion. SRA + vh45de = epic.

sideways_s12Jan 5, 2011, 5:18 pm · #8

oh man pure epicness this swap will be, Iggy sold the cats to someone so they cut them out of the exhaust and I got a preview of what the s12 is gonna sound like when finished......And HOLY SHIT!!!! I had to change my pants hahaha I'm so following suit when he's done with his swap hahahaha....

IggyEGuanaJan 5, 2011, 5:33 pm · #9

ya its pretty mean sounding.  mine will sound smoother than the Q does now but its still gonna be mean

Phisherman09Jan 5, 2011, 6:45 pm · #10

this is gonna be awesome. you should haul that thing up to the big drift thing we have in utah every summer/fall .

NissanNateJan 6, 2011, 1:55 am · #11

Remember iggy before i purchased my vq35 for my s12 i was looking into a VH45. I did ALOT of research, measurements etc so if you want what i know hit me up i can pm you my number.  Just remember largest problem with VH is oil starvation most say even oil pan baffels only help but DO NOT fix the issue. Some say dry sump is only reliable way of keeping your motor from blowing up :(
Anyway man ALWAYS love your threads so i hope you can tackle what i chickened out on lol.

check out silverbox's thread he is from nz he is who motivated me to do my vh swap

IggyEGuanaJan 9, 2011, 11:38 pm · #16

thx guys
if silverbox is the one who was doing it for drag with the two speed auto tranny then ya i saw it.
Seems to me like the oil starvation thing isnt as big a deal as most peeps make it.  similar to the head drainback problem with the dohc CA.. not really a big deal.  check out v8nissans.com  I'm going to be modding the oil pan anyways tho.  baffled and gated for oil then shaved shorter to keep it away from the ground since the engine will be slammed low in the bay.  gonna wing the pan too to add a couple quarts capacity.
Motor will be coming out of the Q soon. kinda tough right now tho cuz my truck is fubar

kyskater wheres ur VH swap? link?
RoofJan 10, 2011, 2:09 am · #17

Nice dude, this project seems really cool.  I've always really liked your other thread since I to have an s12 with ca18det that I enjoy drifting as well.  Always kind of looked at your thread as a guideline for how to make it good haha.  One of these days hopefully I'll meet you.  Probably on 12/12/12 or something.   Good luck with the VH ^^.

kyskaterJan 10, 2011, 2:56 am · #18

mine is on the other site, along with my rhd swap stuff! just payed the freight on that which is going to be awesome! what are you planning to do for mounts,  i am probboly going to use my degree for some personal use and make some nice billet pieces so i dont have to worry with the welds flexing but who knows on that i am always up to seeing other approach to a problem

IggyEGuanaJan 10, 2011, 6:19 pm · #19

the mounts will be pretty simple. just some 4-link bushings with tube and plate.  nothing special

i see u got a half cut aussie s12 on the way to KY. what about a VH?

kyskaterJan 10, 2011, 10:54 pm · #20

have found a q45 for 450 for sale and am just waiting on my school money to be deposited lol.  traded the rb for a s14 shell on coilovers and have to find a ka to throw in it and that will fund my build, also doing a rather unique trans conversion that a few people have done, but it isnt nearly as popular as the z32 trans swap, but it will allow me to not have to do trans tunnel mods

Im seriously debating on this vh swap for my 240. I want a v8s reliability and torque so bad.

Did you ever figure out what the weight was compared to an ls1? Weight is the only thing making me second guess myself.

Yes, I too am starting to reconsider the VH swap option... I wonder how close the Iron VG's are to the Aluminum VH's.

I am saving the front section of my old rusted 88 SE shell, so that I can do all the mock-ups without having to down my Daily Driver  87 SE.  Have been planning a VG30DE swap, but...
DeezusFeb 11, 2011, 8:46 am · #22

the weight, and the fact i cant weld is whats making me hesitant. Ill make up my mind before fall so i can get a motor and freshen it up before it goes into the car.

IggyEGuanaFeb 11, 2011, 9:45 am · #23

its about 500lbs in stock form with no trans attached.  there was somebody on another forum who weighed it on the egine hoist.  they had an electronic scale that went in on the lift chain.

the VG30DETT weighs MORE that the VH45DE.  I think the non turbo dohc VG is either very close to the VH or maybe still a little heavier.

If you cant to the fab work or cant pay a shop to do it then the VH is not gonna be for you.  Mazworx and Xsessive offer conversion parts that are for S13 and S14.  dont know if they'll work for S12 without mods but i kno they dont always work for the cars theyre designed for without some modding so..

DeezusFeb 12, 2011, 12:57 am · #24

oh well i want one for my 240, not my s12. S12 is and always will be KA haha. I just dont wanna put crazy work into it and then have to deal witht he irs...

Ill probably buy some of the mazworx stuff like the z32 trans adapter plate.

Im a horrible welder, but im sure i know someone who will weld my mounts and what not for me, ill just cut them and mock them up.
