Its been a rough road and to be honest a responsible adult would've sold off this project long ago and paid off some debt.
Decided to put this in the S12 Garage instead of Gallery cuz they're all project pics.
Heres my first Gallery thread. Shows the car when I first got it.

Holy oil pan dent batman! Fixed it.

Had the original timing belt on still
been sittin for a while
Upon reassembly my dumb ass did this.. snapped exhaust cam. CA16DE cams from junkyard (lucky find) dropped in later.

Last time it was CA20E powered

engines and parts everywhere
Some love from Henry. 8x5 900lb. THANKS HENRY!!!

XS Power header and dump pipe off ebay wrapped and sprayed. Euro T25G. Same as J-spec except for the built-in slip-on compressor inlet. Oh and new house with bigger garage now too.

Simple vac setup

Not yet..
Almost..
OH YEAH!!

Hockey puck motor mounts. You can see the dent in my crossmember from drift gone wrong into dirt bank. Big rock hiding in that dirt.
2" Gauges set into dash. A lot harder to do than it looks but worth it.

Headliner gone

Harness laid out. THANKS DAVE!!!

Last pic for today. Shows charge pipe done and in as well as Maxima fans in and the fan harness done. More pics of those things to come. Myspace wont let me upload more pics right now and I'm too lazy to manually resize them all lol.

Now that is a picture dump. Keep up the good work man. Looks like it coming along quite nicely.
fuckin sweet can't wait till we roll together with 2 of the meanest s12's vegas has ever seen
awsome sauce
so you decided to finaly rebuild the CA and stick it in there
lookin good!
So fucking awesome!!!!
glad to see the progress, I can't wait to see this in person! and get left in the dust! LOL
I've got a good xmember, but its quite rusty. I can pick you up an unbent one once I get to socal, as there should be plenty there.
what header wrap did you use?
ah, dented oil pans. brings back memories of my own engine
Wicked cool! Everyone thinkin' about gettin' a CA18det thanks you for those pics.
Am I the only one that's ever bought an engine with out a bad oil pan?
...ok, well the KA's oil pan is a little beaten, but it isn't THAT bad.
sexyy
we totally have the same interior ha
The one good thing about my car was a brand new oil pan. Still got the jdm oem stickers on it. Too bad the rest was a pile of junk, but soon to be on the road. I think I'll stop by vegas sometime. I know for sure SD then SF. I guess Vegas and then Seattle are next on my list.
My interior is pretty well the same to with only a couple minor differences
looks good!
should change all the sensors too. Also, cold starts are going to be fun with no IACV.
great pics man very clean install
Thanks tons for all the good comments guys.

HAHA IDK how fast its really gonna be. Hoping for good things though. Will be on stock boost for a while to begin with. For the crossmember I think imma drop the whole front out of a S13 when I have funds. IIRC the S13 crossmember bolts up. No plans set in stone just yet.. or ever lol

DEI kit off ebay. I got the kit with 2 2"x50' rolls, bunch of steel ties and silicone spray. Didnt even use one roll lol.

The IACV or AAC or IAV or whatever (dont feel like looking it up) doesnt control cold start. The air regulator handles that. Still have the air reg but I was gonna delete it too and just run the TB stop screw slightly open. High idle all the time lol.
Gonna do another photo dump soon.
Anybody kno why these quotes not working? Too many in one post mayb?
Heres some info about it and I kick myself for not getting pics of the flywheel/clutch install.
Engine
-JDM spec CA18DET (duh) Internally Stock
-CA16DE cams (more low and mid range from the intake cam being different which is not what I really want to build for but they were available)
-Just got another CA18DET exhaust cam so that will be going in the intake side before long (Will pull hard to 8000rpm redline which is what I do want to build for.) Mayb I'll wait till my 500mi oil change/head re-torque to change it.
-Got extra set of A+ condition valve covers from Dave (THANKS DAVE!!) to strip and polish. Whoo Hoo! Not on yet. Will do that when I swap the intake cam.
-Euro Spec T25G
-XS Power SS exhaust mani, dump pipe, down pipe, cat delete. Only using mani and dump for now. Header wrapped them. Stock turbo S12 downpipe from sideways_s12 (THANKS JASON!!!) to mate to stock exhaust. Will be swapping to mani/dump/down/decat and thats it.
-DIY 3" short charge pipe with 1G DSM BOV. Yes thats correct. NON-INTERCOOLED. Water Injection!! But not yet. So no running over 10psi til I can get that setup in. Or mayb I'll just tune to rich so I can boost to 15psi.
-Maxima electric rad fans relayed and switched on with a MK1.5/MK2 AC fan thermoswitch. (THANKS SPUNNION FOR THE SWITCH!!)
Drivetrain
-CA trans that came with it
-Fidanza 9.5lb aluminum flywheel for SR20DET (actually weighed in at 9lbs and did not have to grind the inside of the bellhousing. Dont know why but who cares right)
-Ebay 6-puck unsprung clutch for SR20DET (haterz be damned lol)
-MK2 turbo gear reduction starter (THANKS AGAIN SPUNNION!!)
-"Earl's" braided SS front brake line for 280zx used for clutch line into slave cylinder/clutch dampener delete. IIRC I got it from theZstore.com. I just emailed them bout it and took care of the whole thing through emails. Cheap and easy.
-Ebay "C's" style short shifter for 240sx (simple install and shift motions feel awesome.)
-Custom 1 peice driveshaft
-DIY welded diff (R180 with 4.10 gears original to the car)
Tuning and Gauges
-2x 2" Equuis gauges set into dash right under cluster. Boost and lame-o A/F.
-Old school APEX-I AFC. 1 knob and a bunch of LEDs
Chassis and Suspension
Stripped to the bone. Stock suspension for now. Plans are S13 front with coilovers and previously seen 900lb springs from Henry and undecided type of foxbody shocks for rear.
Not sure if I forgot anything. Oh well will add later as I go.
Thanks to David B for the oil pressure sending unit fitting. My dumbass left it on the junked CA20E.
Got a good condition SE kit minus mudflaps from Jom (THANKS JOM!!!) and SE mudflaps from sideways_s12 (THANKS AGAIN JASON!!) Not sure when/if I'm gonna be putting the kit on. Looks good but adds weight. Tough tough decision.
Comms and Crits welcome
Welding the diff is not for everyone. It has its pros, but it makes parking a bitch. I'm sure you knew that or you wouldn't have done it.
^
+1
I welded it back before I moved to Vegas. Many miles with it.
looking at your sig pic, whats with the wheels? they look wide, low offset type, they're not the originals are they?
HAHA yeah thats from my first AUTO-X. I had a blow out on the way there. I thought i was gonna just be a spectator so I was talkin to peeps and I was talking to this guy with a 240z and he let me use his "towing" set for the event. Luckily I had registered anyways so it was just a matter of making a mad dash to swap the wheels and get into tech. I was technically late but they were nice people. As for the wheels yes I did ask. They are a custom set from Pete Paulsen.
http://www.petepaulsen.com/
Unfortunetly I neglected to check out the specs on the wheels. I was a bit stoked to be able to run the event. They seemed to be 15x8 -0 though.
ah, sweet. they certainly look good! Probably heavy as hell tho
Ha yeah not as heavy as S12 steelies though. OMG these things are stupid heavy for a 15" wheel.
wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
1 - are you sure that you have blocked only the AC-stuff at the manifold?
Appreciate your concern Nitro. I've done a bit of research on this.
1) Two types of idle control there. Neither is needed. Would it idle better in varying conditions with those solenoids/valves there? Certainly. But just for the engine to run they are not needed. And they have no effect on the engine when its off idle.
2) The FPR is hooked up in that pic. Vacuum comes from the nipple on the back of the manifold and is T'd to the FPR and Butterfly Valve Actuator. The Larger nipple located on the pass side of the mani near the TB will be BOV signal and Wastegate will either be off the turbo itself or the charge pipe. Thats it for vacuum. Thats the whole system.. unless I'm forgetting something else lol. Oh ya, Air Regulator. IIRC it needs to be chargepipe to Air reg to manifold. Haven't hooked that all the way up yet either.
Waylon I just got teh "stuffs". Thanks for the quick shipping.
werd ganksta! Keepin eh on tha DL?
LOL it just sounds more interesting when stuff is omitted. Oh and I don't even know where some of these things go! I'll do some research cuz a lot of people just throw it away.
HAHA yeah I dug them out of a bag and was like WTF? hmm.. lol The big one that goes on the mani is a duh and the one that goes on the turbine housing is easy. It has the louvers in it. Some are brackets not shields but I know they cam from that area. Theres one funny shaped one that goes between the turbine housing and block. only know that cuz i spotted it in a pic on NICO like 3 days ago lol. God luck figurin it out man.
Ok just to elaborate on the removal of the FDIC, IAA, AAC. I don't want to sound like I'm being an asshole and not explain. Heres an excerpt from a tech blog on http://www.driftopia.com/
"Note: The air regulator as well as the Idle Air Adjustment system has been removed from my motor and I simply have the throttle body set to a slightly open position for idle. The next tech article will demonstrate this system."
Sorry bout the small size of the pic. Anyway, it shows the idle control bits and the air regulator nipple removed and plugged. In his setup he used the small adjuster screw on the TB to set his throttle stightly open in the rested position. Without doing that his engine would not idle and with no air regulator he had no cold start high idle.
For my setup I will also be setting my TB to slightly open but I have retained the air regulator. I'll have high idle but without setting my TB slightly open I would lose idle as soon as the engine warmed up IE the air regulator closed.
Hope this explains the system well enough to everyone.
DUMP! The myspace upload problem was with the camera not myspace. Moved files to PC and then uploaded and it worked fine.
chopped up some baffle to bang out the dent
APEX'i AFC! old skool tune

AFC settings for CA18DET

Here u can see the gear reduction starter needed for using the SR20DET flywheel

rear wiper motor and other crap removed
storage of course

Alum heat insulating tape

Heat wrap scraps ziptied to brakelines
Fanzzz all custom wired
Lookin super sexy! Love the heat wrap, and those bitchin blue connectors!! That 90degree one that comes off of the turbo is perfect for this... did you get it special for that or was that a universal thing?
I don't remember, are you planning on intercooling eventually or no?
Thanks man! Means a lot comin from the master. HA that 2" to 3" 45 degree was IMPOSSIBLE to find and then 2 of em popped up on ebay outta nowhere. I got the better of the 2 cuz it had a smooth transition. Cost me bout 30 bucks though ouch.
Will be runnin a simple water/meth/WW injection setup. My car bein MK1 auto has the WOT switch on the pedal arm already. Will use that to trigger the spray.
Somethin I just noticed. In this shot you can see the Fidanza Alum flywheel. Not the shot I wanted but better than nothing. Proof that its at least there lol.
Still bummed bout forgetting to get a shot of the clutch but it looks just like this except the pressure plate is green.
OMG! I have that insulating tape on my harness LOL. Thanks your heatshields, it won't be that hot anyway. Everything looks good. OH you can get more silicon couplers from siliconeintakes.com. I got my stuff there and it's pretty good. Ebay stuff but meh. For the price you can't beat it. OH and if you want that heat shield for the brake lines, I'll be on the lookout at the junkyards. I haven't been lately, but I've been hearing alot of turbo models pop up. I'll remember to grab one for you if I ever see another.
wow...i think your thread might of helped me figure out why my 626 isnt idling right...unless my first guess about the cat being clogged is right...all i know is it hates idling when it warms up. Your build is teh sex and reminds me of mine...only my car has less interior, my engine bay got cleaned, and your engine looks sexier then mine...because of your parts.
Thanks guys! The interior is pretty stripped. As far as I'm going to go until later. Only things inside is the dash, door panels, and sound deadening. All HVAC from the car has been removed and I'll be removing the sound deadening when it gets colder out. Everything in the engine bay thats not needed has been trashed as well. Hoping to be in the 2300lb area or less seeing as it was a very low option car to begin with.
mod_mastazOH and if you want that heat shield for the brake lines, I'll be on the lookout at the junkyards. I haven't been lately, but I've been hearing alot of turbo models pop up. I'll remember to grab one for you if I ever see another. That would be awesome. Thx man
sam31183wow...i think your thread might of helped me figure out why my 626 isnt idling right...unless my first guess about the cat being clogged is right...all i know is it hates idling when it warms up.Even with a badly clogged cat a car will idle ok but not want to do much else. The higher the RPM the shittier.
I remem a car at my old werk that had clogged cats. IIRC a V6 Kia Sportage. Came in as basic driveability complaint. Damn thing idled fine but didn't want to drive. The old tech that got the ticket messed with it for a while. I got busy but next thing I know hes rompin it through the parking lot runnin just exhaust manis. LOL loud as fuck but ran great! The douchebag manager at the time somehow charged the customer iirc 2300 bucks. All we did was get universal cats and u-bolts from CSK. Fuckin ripped that customer. But their shit got fixed and they were happy as could be.
IggyEGuana

People like that is what gives the repair industry a bad rap.
hmm, then maybe my initial thought is wrong then and it is a air control valve...i have replaced a lot of vac lines...but it hasnt made a difference. I thought about running sea foam thru it...but i havent yet. When i went to pick it up at napa the guy told me you arent supposed to run it thru the brake booster line...but he was a jack ass...
Great job man. Thanks for the info on cross member tranny. Helped a lot.
Hahaha def startin to look like a car now
Did someone run over that passenger seat?
no his tires were back there for the drift events and being how it gets so hot out here it burned the imprint into the seat lol
lol nice.
yea and its the print of an azenis too cha-ching!
BOTH doors have been totally(almost) torn down and rebuilt. manual window cranks swapped in, glass swapped, handles swapped(had keyless), locks swapped(rekeying car to the old key), cut back & taped harnesses, rubbers either installed cuz missing or replaced the shitty ones(lots of rubbers had to be done bah), mirrors installed. everything is good to go. adjusted them a bit. need to get a roll pin for the driver door catch? (little arm that keeps the door from flyin open too fast/far) and need to put mirror glass back in the driver mirroe still. was already out. need to readjust passenger window regulator sometime.
i can lock it up now. hey hey
next thing is the dash. gonna be stripping a lot of shit out of the new shell when that happens. bout 60+ pounds gonna come out woohoo
seriously gotta get the motor in though
Bwahahahahaha you said rubbers lmao!!
rofl
both dashes are out and all the shit it stripped out of the new shell. felt heavier this time but at least seemed to come out easier. crazy how easy the s12's dash comes out when u know how it goes. stuff goes back in tomorrow. gonna be a mix of parts from both cars. 3 tone dash watch out!
Awesome! Sorry haven't been much help lately have no way to get down to you to help

Wow. I am legitimately impressed. You dumpstered a car!? AHAHAHAHA.
Pure awesome. This thread is win.
