Need help with fuel pump and ignition coil wiring...

I don't know if it's just me, but I find Sterling's write-ups completely impossible to decipher. The pictures are horribly confusing and the information is vague at best. I'm going to try to do his relay wire-in for the fuel pump. WHERE is this connector that is supposed to have these wires that I need? I think they're Black with white, Black with pink and White OR black. Can I use the stock fuel pump relay to do this job? And I can't find anything at all about wiring up the ignitor module... Do I need to use the one from the KA? Or can I use one of the ones from the CA?

Yes you can use stock wiring . The write ups are more than clear imo

The fuel pump plugs are like 9 inches off the sending unit, you can't miss it . The white wire in the ground for the control side of the relay , I just cut that wire and use a toggle switch . Probably not safe since that wire is hot at all times though

Power to the coil I used the clack white wire for a stock S12 coil, power to the transistor is through the big black red wire in the 8 pin connector.

Wat!? I'm positive its just you. But a background in simple electronics helps what about them is confusing or hard to decipher? he color codes it, explains it, and there are tons of pictures throughout.

*You just lost 7 cool points.

Ling-ling is our god.

Really? Sterling said it was in the engine bay...

I'm an automotive technician. I DO automotive electronics. His stuff just turns my brain into oatmeal. I physical can't wrap my head around it. I dunno why.

So no one can help me with my actual problem?

MaxpowNov 15, 2010, 8:24 pm · #7

I don't own any KA'd cars.

Just PM someone who has done the swap.

The problem with the fuel pump shit is there are like 6 different setups that are possible, you have to do what works for you or is applicable to your year.

I don't follow everyone's threads, what year is your chassis?  throw up pics, pics of ecu harness to chassis harness connectors, pics of the fuel pump connector.

All my threads are MK1 oriented atm.

I can help you directly with your setup, not a problem, its simpler than the writeups show.

Excellent. Thanks, I'll get some pictures up tonight. Mine is an 85 Turbo manual body and I'm swapping in an 89 SOHC.

Alright, so no pics tonight, I ended up having to work on the Suburban a LOT more than I was expecting. Probably won't have anything till this weekend. =/

Here's a link to my build thread if you're interested:

Ill give it a read thru, toss up some pics.  Weekend will probably be occupied with s12 stuff locally, but i'll get back to you.

And These two plug-ins are in the left front corner of my engine bay, right under where the air box would be. Are these the BCM to ECU connectors you're talking about?

Also, what do I need to do for coil hookup? Do I need to use the KA or one of the CA-T coils?

So as far as wiring up the Ecu, I just cut an solder together all those wires in the chart? I still don't understand really what you mean with the coil power wire and all...

Ok, so I can't just cut and solder wires cause I used the only black w/ white wire for my fuel pump relay... I'm so fucking confused...

Alright. So I also don't have a brown wire in either those s12 plug ins... what am I suppose to hook my s 13 brown wire to??

And wtf. I don't have an orange wire in my s13 harness at either of those plug ins. This is what I'm saying, this shit is mind numbingly confusing and horribly unclear...

Alright so I found the Turbo wiring guide and makes SO MUCH more sense now. I'm still confused though, because I used my black with white wire for my fuel pump relay. Do I need to splice off of that for the ecu backup?
