Hey, so. my s12 is coming together slowly, and i finally got the engine running decent. (ca20e) However, as soon as it warms up to normal operating temps, it begins the cycle of popping, stalling and backfiring. why does it only do it when the engine is warm?? no
Engine only runs cold??
Look at the O2 sensor... when cold, it runs without it, (Open loop) because the O2 sensor is not accurate when cold... so the ECU completely ignore it. As soon as it gets hot, the ECU adjust the mixture with the help of the O2 sensor, it get in (closed loop)... that would be my first guess... second one would be the coolant temperature sensor... but I don't think it would have such effect...
the o2 sensor really doesnt do much for the S12 ECU regardless, but i WOULD point to a sensor of some type...my car runs badly like that at ALL conditions, so im working through some various issues myself.
Drop the ECU and check the codes, theres a how-to in the How-to/FAQ's section.
Thanks guys! ill check these out and keep ya posted.
(Tommy, glad we can still talk car tech even though our belief battle kinda bashed each other)
