Ok so i just swapped in a ca18det into my s12 and i cant get it to start, it turns over and back fires and shakes a lot but just wont fire up. Im getting fuel and spark, i think i have all my grounds, also starter seems to be struggling a lot it even started smoking after trying to start the car for a while. The guy i got the motor from says it was rebuilt and only drove 300miles. HELP PLEASE

Think i got it
Edit: Ok switched my motor harness to another one i had laying around and it stopped back firing and started to turn over smother, but still wouldn't start then i found out i wasn't getting fuel like i thought i was so sprayed starter fluid in and she fired right up, checked everything came down to the ECU is bad, so i was thinking about getting the Blitz or Mines ECU anyone know anything about these.

Any info thanks.

sounds like timing is off, either cam or igntion, and its back firing against itself.

I took off the timing cover, set the motor to tdc and all the markings lined up where they should.

There are plenty of people that will help you. Try to be patient as it may take some time. Even though the engine is at TDC the timing could still be off it the distributer is off a few teeth. Sounds like timing to me too but keep us posted

Just for your info jordan the DET has no distributor... it's a waste spark system... so yeah the ECU would be to blame

Good to know. I have worked on the ET version but not the DET. Bummer on the ECU Sad

Blitz and Mines are factory ECU's that have been rechipped by those compnaies, tweeked for performance, that would give mildly upgraded results with factory AFM, injectors and turbo and boost up. If your planning on real upgrades later you could just get a factory ECU and then have that rechipped for specific upgrades, e.g. bigger turbo, upgraded injectors, AFM and boost etc., when you have collected the parts, (there is a guy here that has been well known for years doing CA18det and RB,  (20,25),  ECUs), relatively inexpensive (Dr Drift is the name he goes by, I know him as I used to sell him injectors) and btter power gains by far. He has done so many that he would have off the shelf maps to suit most combinations.

go blitz im running blitz on my s12 and it works wonders mines is good but its more expensive for bang for the buck go blitz, auto ecu will run really rich around 10-12 afr i had to figure out why mine was running so rich and i just swapped daughterboards from the ecu and made pins for a manual one and it fixed my rich problem so its pretty crazy how the ecu has to be tuned to the teeth to work correctly dont cheap out or you will pay for it
