slow acceleration

Car is having acceleration problems.

Just started happening not too long ago my car doesn't accelerate as fast as it use to.

It's a real slow acceleration, doesn't matter if I am pushing the pedal all the way or half way or a little, it will slowly accelerate.

while flooring it waiting for my car to accelerate I can feel a slight sputter but not much.

I've done a tune up on my car about 2 months ago which included new spark plug wires, ngk V power spark plugs, new fuel filter, new air filter, and 1 new o2 sensor.  (does our car have 2)

since the tune up til now the car ran perfect.  Not too sure what may have caused this and not sure what to check.

Frequent problem is frequent.

Could be TPS acting up. Check all your connections, unplug replug (possibly apply some dialectic grease), then you can check your vacuum lines. Just go over everything make sure its all connected properly. With mine the TPS and its connector both got corroded and I had to replace both.

i forgot to mention, i also replaced the cap and rotor with the tune up just forgot to add that to the list.

I replaced my clutch and slave cylinder less then 6 months ago.

all connections to everything seem fine other then my leak in my power steering which is another problem on its own.

could a faulty clutch cause this problem? I feel like my clutch doesn't engage all the way.. when shifting gears its no longer smooth, theres always a thunk when shifting. especially in second gear, it jerks when shifting to second.

recently my car has had problems starting. I tried to start it like normal and nothing, no ticking or any sound at all.  had to keep trying over and over again til I almost called a tow truck, gave it one last try and it started right up like normal.  that happened twice already so im thinking my clutch is having a problem engaging all the way but I don't know.

any ideas anyone?

Do you have to push the clutch to start the car? My car had that same problem for some reason s12's don't like the whole depress the clutch thing if it happens again don't try and start it right away give it a min or 5 lol then try it usually works for me. As far as the acceleration problem I have no idea what that could be but as max said check everything. The clutch not engaging could be the slave and or master cylinder if you replace one you might as well replace both because is one goes out the other is sure to follow very soon after. If you need help with the install let me know ill be glad to help

Ok all the connections "SEEM" normal or are normal. Take EVERY SINGLE ONE and unplug it, scrub the contacts, then put dialectic grease on it, then replug it. Its the best way to deal with corroded ass shit without wiring in all kinds of new plugs and nonsense (which is what I am doing whew)

If everything really is normal you might want to check your ECU for codes, Cleaned your maf? Could be a dirty maf, clean that and its connectors.

Just make a list of everything you have done and it will make it easier to judge what can be done from there.

Hey Patrick! How's it going?!? The problem that you are having sounds like the problem I thought I had corrected. I know exactly what you are talking about. It putters a little bit between 2k and 3k rpm? You replaced all of the parts that I replaced only 2 years ago!! I did a new fuel filter in early 09. I thought it might have been a faulty fuel pressure regulator and the problem went away. I almost wonder about the fuel pump itself. A long time ago, like 5 years ago, the car stopped running and I traced it to the fuel pump. I bought a new one, and all of a sudden the old one started working again. I ended up returning the new one to save $$$. I never had issues with it, but part of me thinks maybe the fuel pump craps out a little bit. If you have a few bucks, go ahead and maybe buy a new one and eliminate that possibility. You can pull the pump very easily from the trunk. If anything, first check the connection to the fuel pump. Clean the contacts with electrical cleaner and make sure its tight and snug. Maybe a road bump loosens it and has a bad ground.

Another part me thinks about the Mass Air Flow Sensor. Funky things can happen if that goes bad.

That other problem you had starting the car sounded like the safety switch on the clutch. I know on that car, you have to push so hard to start it. It might be getting to a point that no matter how hard you push, it's not making contact. I think you can adjust that or either have to buy a new one. I think you can even eliminate it altogether. Search the forums.

BTW, if the clutch was going, the engine would rev high almost like you are in neutral and it would take awhile to engage. (Slipping) I know because I blew the clutch in this car 2 months after I first bought it. laugh
