Can I Do The White Bunny Mod On A Ca20e?

ok, so I need a new clutch.

I have read that the ka clutches work on the CA flywheels. I have also read that the ca18de/det flywheels have 8 bolts(crank), compared to the ca20e/ca18et's 6 bolts.

I bought all the stuff to do the white bunny mod, before I noticed that it was for the ka24de...

I know the flywheel will bolt up to the crankshaft, but will the starter work??????

The trans input shaft spline is the same, so I am not worried about that, just the starter issue.

Any ideas? will the ca20e starter work?

wtf is a white bunny

se7enJun 25, 2010, 2:41 am · #3

the white bunny mod is using the d21 nissan truck flywheel and clutch in A KA24de vehicle...

supposed to be good for 400hp...

Correct. When you start it up it grinds out some of the bellhousing, and boom! More grip

The CA flywheel is much smaller than the KA flywheel. Of which the D21 flywheel is larger than that even... I highly doubt it would work. But I cannot say for sure

The only person to run a KA clutch on a CA single cam engine was Bart, and he had to slot the thing to work. He only drove it that way for a short while, and when Sterling tried it, he said it was imperfect at best.

Honestly, a CA20E does not put out enough power to defeat even an Autozone clutch. There's absolutely no need for anything stronger than that.

sideways_s12Jun 25, 2010, 4:17 am · #6

Barts not the only one J I have one on my 18et. And have expeirenced no problems and I beat the piss out of it drag racing and burnouts and drifting

But yeah you need more power from the 20e to even justify the use of it

ArroJun 25, 2010, 4:20 am · #7

Maybe you slotted yours better, not sure. It's a bit imprecise tho.

sideways_s12Jun 25, 2010, 4:27 am · #8

I agree bart said there were only 2 holes that needed to be slotted when it was more like all but 2 needed to be slotted I just used a dremel and slotted each hole a little at a time then test fitted it then repeat until it slid on nice.

the reason I am going with it is because I am going to upgrade to a ka24de in the future, and my clutch is gone now.

I don't really want to buy two clutches if at all possible

anyone have a ca20e flywheel handy that wants to measure the O.D. and count the teeth for me? pretty please?

sideways_s12Jun 25, 2010, 4:31 am · #10

I have a 18et one should be the same

se7enJun 25, 2010, 4:44 am · #11

Yeah, fm my research, that is the same....could you send a pic of it to my email?

[email removed]

and maybe count the teeth and give is a quick measure(from the outermost tooth to tooth)

pretty please?

ArroJun 25, 2010, 6:11 am · #13

he can post it here like anyone else so we can all see it.

Ok first off, I believe the CA20E/CA18ET starter is different than the KA one, having seen them both.

When you swap to a KA, are you going to run it nonturbo or turbo?

I ask this because the KA requires A LOT of work to get the longblock capable of handling 400 horsepower. And a LOT of money more specifically... rods, pistons, valve springs and retainers, camshafts, a turbo better than your run-of-the-mill T25G, and a manifold better than your average Ebay part (that won't crack under the heat of a 400hp turbocharged KA). Among other components.

The least of which is the D21 flywheel and and clutch.

You're new here. I mean no offense when I say this, but I'm guessing you want to do the KA24DE swap because it seems to be the most popular in North America. You'll probably want to swap it quick and cheap, and drive it like that for awhile... maybe not long after, bolt a turbo on and boost it 10, maybe even 15 psi.

You won't need the white bunny until you've fully-built the KA longblock to handle it.

I could be wrong, but I think you need to reevaluate your plan, maybe get a clear idea of your expected costs, and why you think you need the white bunny. I'm not saying you don't. I'm just saying that chances are, you don't need it.

Of course, feel free to clarify or reevaluate your plan with us, we're here to help, not to discourage. But sometimes a review of a plan helps keep things realistic.

I think he just wants to do it now, while his shit is broke because he can justify doing the swap now, instead of buying a new clutch, and then down the road doing the swap anyways.

Saves cash even though it would be pointless for now.

ArroJun 25, 2010, 6:27 am · #15

Saves him maybe 100 bux. He could just run a slotted KA clutch, then move the clutch to a D21 flywheel when he's ready and not spend extra cash.

se7enJun 25, 2010, 6:46 am · #16

I realize that it's a waste right now, but I do have a d21 flywheel that I lightened at my machine shop(where I work).
I also have a d21 clutch as well(new in box still). My clutch is gone on the ca20, and I can't seem to find a ka24de yet.

May as well upgrade things while it's apart.
Anyway, I'd still love those measurments.... I'd hate to have to pull this apart prematurely( it still moves under it's own power but it is slipping under load) and I don't want it stuck in my garage for longer than needed.

So. Measurements?

If I have to. Will drop the trans to take a quick look, but thus would save me the hassle. Help me get this car back on the road until I can find a suitable donor ka.

ArroJun 25, 2010, 6:48 am · #17

tell you what, why don't you measure the D21 and tell me what it comes out to, because I happen to have an S12 "C" trans from a Mark II car just chillin' in my garage. I can tell you then and there if it's gonna be an issue. Should get you the answer you need, yes?

And go update your location lol

sideways_s12Jun 25, 2010, 7:09 pm · #18

I can measure the flywheel when I get home I'm currently at work right now

se7enJun 25, 2010, 11:31 pm · #19

Ok.  So the d21 flywheel measures 12" from the tip of the gear to the tip of the gear.
I also measured my os giken z32 flywheel, it's 12.5"

se7enJun 26, 2010, 6:35 am · #20

any news on the size?

ArroJun 26, 2010, 7:09 pm · #21

LOL you got back to us too late for me personally, I'm out of town until Sun night. When I get back I'll measure the inside of the bellhousing and verify for you.

You don't happen to be in vegas do you

se7enJun 26, 2010, 10:14 pm · #23

No vegas for me

ArroJul 2, 2010, 3:11 am · #25

Why dude what happened? Can't get it together? I measured the inside of the trans bellhousing and I think it will work.

xxstreetbikesxxJul 2, 2010, 10:30 pm · #26

when im changin out my clutch for my kat, im probably doing the white bunny mod..

I forgot about this. Thanks for reminding me
