Ok, so i have been trying to take my bellhousing off my ka, to swap with my ca bellhousing, so i can use my B trans, till i get a front driveshaft.

I unbolted all the bolts, and got it about 1-2 inches apart, but then its stuck, it feels like metal on metal, but its loose.

Any ideas?
What am i missing?

Thanks
-Dom

snap rings under the front plate? i think

KEEP the b trans. you will want that different gearing

i have a few s13 front drveshafts but the carrier bearing is fucked on all of them.. the big rubber bearing. the boot is all torn

Moving this to Drivetrain Tech.

And.... "different gearing"?

David BMar 28, 2010, 8:54 pm · #4

wait, are the b trans the same gearing as c trans?

second gear, in the sr feels way longer then when i had the ca

Um, yeah as far as I know  You're confusing rear end ratios which are different for VG and Turbo vs. non-turbo.

The difference between the B and C S12 trans is.... stronger internals, updated design, and updated shifter (which lets you run S13 short throw parts). Oh and a tad heavier.

Oh, and a lot easier to switch bellhousings from what I understand.

Um yeah well duh, it's a shitload more power and sees it at a different place in the powerband.

hmm yea. maybe because the ca gives up at like 4k lol i get it now

do aftermarket shifters for s13's come with a new bushing? mine is fucked i slap that shit around its so bad. ive been tld adding snap rings in the shifter plate helps also

ArroMar 28, 2010, 9:05 pm · #7

Comes with everything you need, including the bushing. Doesn't work on B trans, just on S12 C trans or S13/S14 trans.

Ok, i took the front plate off, and i only see one snap ring, for the top bearing. By front plate, im assuming you mean the "plate" that is inside the bellhousing.

Im only keeping the B trans, untill i get a new driveshaft, which will probably be in the summer.

im about to go take off that snap ring, and see if the bellhousing will slide out.

Ok, you were right, after i took off the snap ring, and tapped the case with the hammer, it slowly started coming off.

Thanks

OK, I just left Jasons short throw spec page.

Here is how I did my own shifter mod.

You will need a mill and lathe for the process, sorry.

Anyway, I had a piece of half inch aluminum plate layin around so I took several measurements and proceeded to make some aluminum shavings. The plate mounts under the stock cover plate and raises it a half inch.  Sadly, I did not have the camera handy before starting this process and had already rebuilt/assembled the transmission before I had the idea to document this.

The shift lever is a little more complicated since I turned the little finger on a lathe and had a comparator available to get the ball shape just right.  The finger is almost an inch longer than the part I cut off, about a half inch goes into a counter-bore I drilled in the shift lever and the other half extends down to match the new radius.  Remember, the cover plate was raised a half inch so the bottom pivot on the finger has to go down by a half inch.  Got it?

So here are the images:

Top two shifters are stock S-12, the bottom is the modified unit, from a Z31 which gives me a slightly shorter throw as well.  The little nub of the stock finger lies below bottom unit.

Here is the aluminum plate installed below the cover plate. note new rubber boot too.

This is first gear...

...and this is second. Just a scant three and a half inches between them and 1st to 5th is just two inches, about the size of a 2X4 on end.

Now I just need to get this pig started... might get around to it this week, hopefully.

Peace, Wolf

Nice work

But for 30 bux shipped we can get arms w/ spacer kits... for many of us that's perfect. But that you can do it yourself is mucho commendable

Do you have CNC tools, too?
