Anyone install one of these?  Do they fit?  fit with some modifications? or not work entirely?

There's no real reason as to why it shouldn't. The subframes between the S13 and the S12 are very similar. and the engine drops right in, using the SR/KA mounts, and provide the same distance as a factory S13 install.

Buy it

i have s13 suspension in the front, and it rubs against the s13 sway bar. I had to shave down some of the fins on the oil pan for it to work.

Could I talk you into posting some pictures of it for me please?  so i can get an idea of how bad it rubs, etc.

sure, ill go and get some pics right now. if your car is lowered, then the sway bar will literally sit under the oil pan. I have coilovers right now, so when i jack up the car, the front wheels won't droop, and the sway bar will stay under the oil pan. Without coilovers, your front wheels will droop, and the sway bar will sway forward (toward the radiator) and bind against the oil pan and eventually go in front of the oil pan.

never seen one - is it expensive?

they run between 250-300 bucks for a real one.  you can find knockoffs on ebay all day for cheaper, but they tend to leak badly from what I hear.

Mine actually is an ebay one, and it doesn't leak. I learned my lesson from my 1st sr swap not to use the oem one. They dent easily, and if you don't catch it in time, you'll starve oil and blow your motor; which is why I'm on my 2nd sr now.

ClownyNov 30, 2009, 3:26 am · #10

What motor mounts are you using on your sr?

drfts12Nov 30, 2009, 3:51 am · #11

I'm using sr motor mounts that i filled with 3m window weld urethane.

thanks a lot for the info.  Its REALLY helpful.

So r u saying we can't use the oem sr oil pan in our s12 because the pan dents easily and it will starve the oil? Is this greddy stronger built? Did u urethane the mounts for less chance of the pan getting dented? Now Im really curious!

the stock pan denting isnt s12 specific.  they are known to do that in s13s as well.  The greddy pan is definitely stronger than the stock pan.  But its main advantages are its increased capacity and its baffled to help keep oil at the pickup while under extreme sideways conditions.  the urethane mounts are a chaeper way to get stiffer motor mounts so more power reaches the road.  Why spend $150+ on nismo  mounts when you can spend $10-15 for the window weld on your stock units and they perform just the same.
danginaNov 30, 2009, 7:05 am · #15

Looks like he just poured urethane overtop of the stock mounts - is this the proper way to do it? I thought u had to cut out the rubber bushing..

drfts12Nov 30, 2009, 7:15 am · #16

i did not just "pour" it on top. I used a caulking gun, and filled/stuffed the mounts. my motor does not move at all while cranking the motor, and its not stupid stiff like hockey pucks.

you can use a stock sr pan, but as mentioned earlier, they dent easily in all cars if your car is lowered. the greddy one is also finned for oil cooling.

seishukuNov 30, 2009, 10:15 pm · #17

An S14 oil pick up will fix any denting issues with the OEM pan, but the pan sits up high enough on the S12, I really don't see how it's remotely an issue. Unless you make a habit of going rock crawling with your S12.

Oh, and the greddy pan isn't really any stronger, if it gets hit hard enough, it's not going to bend, it will break into pieces. At least the OEM pan will give and not dump all your oil out.

If you want a better oil pan, get a Moroso SR oil pan. It's made out of aluminum sheet metal and will dent instead of break.

drfts12: What sway bar do you have on your S12, S13 front suspension? My stock sway bar doesn't come anywhere near that close to my oil pan.

drfts12Nov 30, 2009, 11:55 pm · #18

the s14 oil pick up was also an upgrade i used. I understand cast will break, but you gotta smack that thing pretty damn hard to break it. Even then, the sway bar will take the beating now since it sits below the oil pan for the most part. I'm using the stock s13 sway bar. I didn't have any clearance issues with my oem pan.

seishukuDec 1, 2009, 1:01 am · #19

I was gonna say, 'cause my stock sway bar is a hair infront of my crank pulley.

drfts12Dec 1, 2009, 3:05 am · #20

that's weird. Is your car lowered? I'm slammed on s13 Megans in the front.

seishukuDec 1, 2009, 3:14 am · #21

Nope, 100% stock S12 suspension.

yeap, theres exactly why. I didn't think i had any clearance issues until i put my car down from jack stands. I had s13 shock and springs before, and it would droop in the air. So, when the car was on the ground, it would sit under the oil pan, and when it was in the air, it would look like yours. Now with coilovers, it just sits underneath the oil pan.

That isnt an option for what I wanna do unfortunately.  But Thanks for all the info in here just the same.  good stuff to know.
brewster240Dec 1, 2009, 3:39 am · #24

why isnt an s14 pickup an option?

its a good idea either way.

thats why nissan used them in the later s13 blacktop srs also.

I'm not actually going to be using it on an sr.  I know this isnt the right section for the motor I want to use it on, but I figured this would be the section i would get the info I am looking for.
brewster240Dec 1, 2009, 4:38 am · #26

aaaahhhhhh.

i see now.

i wouldnt waste time/money/efforst on that pan.

David BDec 1, 2009, 6:39 am · #27

i have a knockoff that needs a new drain plug hole tapped. 40 bux for sr20, both pieces

Any aluminum oil pan will shatter if struck hard enough--even the sheet ones. If they shatter the engine will suck up debris, metal shavings, etc and cause damage. I like the tomei steel oil pan. similar design to the greddy unit, but steel. In case of impact, it bends, I make it home, I bend back. No worries.
