i was wondering if any one has any shots of a hydrolic e-brake in a s12? also if some one would draw up a diagram and make a parts list that would rock. i dont know if it matters but my car is sra with drums. thanks!

there's a ton of s13 setups that are shown online and it shouldn't be any different for our cars or any car for the matter. As of current, I don't recall any s12's in the states with a hydro ebrake

Cars from the factory never came with hydraulic e-brakes. They all utilize a cable. It has something to do with safety shit. The stock S12 IRS uses a cable for the ebrake, but there is no drum. It just tensions the brake pads. As for the SRA, there is a link on this site with some FSM pictures. You should also download it for more info.

not a factory ,but like a cusco setup.

That "safety shit" you are talking about is correct. Its called an e-brake because its an *Emergency Brake*. You probably won't want your Emergency Brake to rely on the same Master Cylinder and Booster. What would be the point?

Imagine this, your brake booster fails, or even the Master Cylinder blows and you have to stop the car. "I guess I'll use the E-Brake. Oh wait, that's controlled by the same shit as my regular brakes. I'm Fucked"

it is a secondary e-brake for drifting it has a seprate MC also. and just like all the other people on here i havent seen a good working ebrake on a s12 with a sra.

I thought the Hydro E-brake was on it's own system (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

ive seen them done both ways but usually i just see them plumbed into the existing lines/reservoir

i kinda also wanna go hydro ebrake since my cables were beyond seized, and theyre cheapish

kyskaterNov 24, 2008, 8:30 pm · #9

lol my OE e-brake is just a warning sound it dosent hold it at all it just squeals as it rolls, i have tightend the cabels but still no help.

I just did some searching and found it is easy to add a hyd e brake. just buy this http://cncbrakes.com/hsb.asp?grp=hsb&s...&subseries= . and then install inline with your rear brake line. rear brakes still work like normal. when you pull the lever it checks the pressure from going back on your normal mc and it works the rear brake. then when you let go it lets the pressure go back through to the mc. I am going to order one and try it out. my e brake sucks and will not lock the back wheels. but I am going to keep the stock e brake to keep from rolling away when parked. and their diagram shows it being used for front brakes so don't be confused when you see that.

Yeah! Get one and let us know! There was a discussion about this a while back- titled drift brakes I think. Flow through is the way to go I think. The I dea of two sets of calipers on the rear is obsurd. Running just the front brakes off the MC is insane.
Get it! Let us know if it can handle the rigors of "Bat Turns"!
D-sport S12Nov 25, 2008, 4:21 am · #12

what about the K- sport hydro ebrake, im looking into buying one of those soon

nismo200sx16Nov 25, 2008, 9:39 pm · #13

k sport is the same setup hydraulically . just looks more like a stock e brake. I like the cnc brake cause its only $100 and I can keep my stock e brake in place for parking.

Not to dig up an old thread, but any word on this? I always had this crazy idea of hookin up a some kinda little actuator or ram kinda deal to hit the e-brake, running it off a lil push switch mounted on the shifter... that way in auto-x, etc, i could just hit that button, e-brakes on, let off the button, e-brake off, and the whole time i can still down shift upshift, etc, and not accidently leave my e-brake on for the last half a lap... last race cost me new pads and rotors...

It was funny.. I stopped in the stop box and then a second later i here her.. "parking brake is on... your parking brake is on.."

I kinda looked over at it, and sure thing it was cranked all the way up there..
I remember thinking too, "Well thats why she seemed bogged down and the ass end wouldnt kick out for me on that last long wide corner...."

I was just glad no one else could here it or knew.. hehe

Brian / Pistonfreak has a live axle with a hydro. I'm going to run one on the track car. For the motokahana days i do the TRX rear end i have does the job. But that's not on tarmac, so grip is a hell of alot less.

It's just an inline MC for the rears.

LyniumDec 17, 2008, 6:29 am · #16

aye, i got curious and did a bit of research on it after reading this... basicaly yeah, it just intercepts the lines goin to the back of the car, and works like normal brakes, but only applies pressure one way via a valve kinda deal... i kinda dig the Ksport one, but would remove the handle part and mount it someplace else, with a little electric ram type deal (cant think of the word)

the ram i would hook to a little push button switch to mount on my shifter, then voila! my "Turning brake" would be a push button on my gear shift i could just tap...

I was thinking of sinking it into the top of the sift knob, with a little removable cover so i dont have to worry about hittin it when doin just normal driving.

200sxkitcarDec 17, 2008, 5:38 pm · #17

You would need one hell of a solenoid to pull that off. The long lever is there for a reason, it takes a good deal of leverage to apply this type of force reasonably, I'm not sure you would be able to do it with electrical components easily.

You would have to do some research to find out what type of solenoids are available and how much current they use (remember 12v!) and force they put out, then find some way of measuring the force necessary to apply the brake to lockup or whatever you desire, and compare. You might find this to be a tad out of the realm of reasonability...

whats so hard about just pulling(or even pushing) on the ebrake?

these are the usual s14 installation pics

even wrc cars have them in the same spot

hmm.. i was wondering about the force n all required.. and not sure on what there is aas far as solenoids and such... could always mount it farther up onthe lever n such as well to gain leverage... I also wondered about if theres any special sort of valve in these to keep the fluid from forcing back into the original system... if not, then almost any master cylander would do.. so, i supose there is, other wise there would be all sorts of stuff on ppl fabbing their own on old used parts etc...

But, if one could, then theres also dual piston ones and such as well... not sure if that would give any gain or anything over force applied versus force gained, but the difference in the bores likely would, and theres various diferent sizes available as well...

also, if an electrical one wouldnt work very well, although, im certain teres bound to e something that would suffice, then a little air piston could work just as well, or better..

at any rate, im imagining this box in the trunk with the lever still attached and a solenoid at its top... not too appealing, buuuut...

theres a way, im certain... likely many ways, i'll just have to figure one out fro me!

EDIT: another handbrake source:

Edited again:

Another sorce, i think even cheaper than CNC... also has a dual handel/ piston version.. would take little to put one handle on both like the CNC version.. dont think thered be any gain tho...

http://www.dansperformanceparts.com/buggy/.../buggytcbh2.htm

lotsa other neat stuff there as well!

Yeah, I think the powered app might look a bit goofy. If you could get away with no lever, perhaps, but then you lose the sense of modulation... with the force attached to your arm, feedback is much better.

The primary purpose of the ones you see advertised is that they DO have a check valve that prevents flow towards the master cylinder, otherwise you are right, anyone would build them. For $100, I don't think you could go wrong,... a new master cylinder is often more than that just by itself.

Those handbrakes are straight sex! Someday I want to build a car worthy of sporting one (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

LyniumDec 18, 2008, 5:30 am · #21

i still like the idea of just hittin a button and brakes on... kida checkin out the line lock, but still need to appl the pressure first, so kinda defeats the purpose.. i just need to find an electric powerd hand brake... lol

gadget1382Dec 18, 2008, 5:52 am · #22

Steal one off an electric trailer brake... Sure you wonldnt have normal brakes, and would cost huge $$ but it's possible. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol.gif)

LyniumDec 18, 2008, 5:59 am · #23

PROBLEM SOLVED!!! its all in me head now.. MUAHAHHAHAAHA!! (long maniacal laugh of satisfaction)

Everything from 8-400pnds of force, .4 to 2 inches per second... all i need to know is about how much force it would take to push that cylinder in... and then go from there...

Its pretty much the first site i looked up, once i figured out what i was searching for... lol also seen some others, one had a one that was rate at 40Gs acceleration etc etc

http://www.firgelliauto.com/

and all the ones i looked at were 12volts... go figure...
Now i know for sure it will work out just fine!
(IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) does happy dance

edit:

electric trailor brakes are totaly different... they run off a magnet and basicaly drum brakes... now maybe adapting a brake pot off a semi trailor/air brake setup... but unless i go with air ride/air bags kinda deal, i dont care to add an air system...

allthough.. check out hornblasters.com LMAO!! funny as hell... train, sea boots and otherloud ass horns mounted in cars...
gotta check out the videos!

no seriously, check it out!
