Ok,

Let my explain by a pic:

The idea: a under rear strut from some factory bolts and adjustable in the middle for lenght

thats where the shock mounts, it wont allow for camber adjustment.

200sxkitcarOct 27, 2008, 9:39 pm · #3

^yep.

I think the brace as you have it drawn there would affect rear toe more than anything.

those brackets aren't very stiff as well, and would likely bend under much force.

Yes true!

What about these holes?

i want to take the dumb test

That's not going to work, The problem with camber is the alignment of the arms to the subframe. If you take off your shock/spring and lift the arms up and down, you'll see the line of travel. You won't be able to fix camber with such a simple theory.

nismologistOct 28, 2008, 12:33 am · #7

is there anything we can do for rear camner?do coilovers make it worse?

seishukuOct 28, 2008, 1:03 am · #8

Lowering the subframe will help, but probably slotting it is the best right now.
Searching for that should turn up more info.

people have been trying to solve the rear camber issues for years with little to no improvments.

swapping a s13 rear assembly will allow you to fix the camber but its alot of work. you dont have many options with the s12... either learn to live with it, or dont lower the car.

seishukuOct 28, 2008, 3:46 am · #12

Not that it matters when it's just a rolling chassis...

JulieOct 28, 2008, 3:51 am · #13

doesnt roll either actually

frosti108Oct 28, 2008, 4:45 am · #14

lol that z31 thread is crazy. im gonna pretend i never saw it and just go on living my life with camber. its really not so bad when tires are free...

200sxkitcarOct 28, 2008, 4:57 am · #15

haha yeah, that is true, but when the results of that thread come thru it will be a pretty solid answer to this issue.

alundraOct 28, 2008, 12:25 pm · #16

I'm gonna raise my car and think about it.

nismo200sx16Oct 28, 2008, 12:29 pm · #17

slot the sub frame if you go really low. use cam bolts if you just lower a little.

alundraOct 28, 2008, 4:07 pm · #18

Do you know the spec for such cam bolts?

How this work? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SPC-REAR-CA...bayphotohosting

ArroOct 28, 2008, 5:47 pm · #19

The cam bolt won't solve the camber issue when you lower your car. The way the rear suspension is designed from the factory, when the wheels move up, they gain negative camber. So when straight, they have no camber. The more they move up, the more they gain camber. It's not a fixed amount, so what you suggest will only change the camber when the suspension is not traveling up or down.

Like Henry and others said, this won't work, because the problem lies in the way the trailing arm connects to the crossmember. The hinges if you will.

Here's how bluke1 has it on his car. His car has slotted hinges on the trailing arms:

As he put it: "it may not be the same as some camberplates some people make, but this car has been raced hard for over 20 years and there are no structural problems with it. just some steel and good welding."

Since everyone keeps asking about the camber info, this is going to be the next biggest thing. I'm pretty sure it will work, because I was going to do this to my own car but Gary advised against it until he was finished and worked out the tweaks. Sounds good to me haha so I don't have to deal with the minor issues. Since he will post all of the info there to get people started, I will personally reproduce this for personal use.

It should start at page 5. That's when the fun stuff happens. The other pages just go over the currently known camber mod and ideas thrown around to fix it. Enjoy! Oh and this WILL REQUIRE MONOBALLS or HEIM JOINTs to work because poly or rubber WILL BIND. I already have plans thought out for that. It will probably be a monoball bushing with a circlip to make the actual monoball replaceable. Expect this setup to be VERY EXPENSIVE as it will be custom.

If you don't get it, it changes the outer pivot point(mounting hole) to adjust the camber of the arm. I also want to see more of Bluke's picture cuz that looks really interesting too.

Well Sterling is going to visit him soon, before he treks out here. So I hope he talks him into jacking up the car, so he can take LOTS of pictures of that camber adjust design.

200sxkitcarOct 29, 2008, 12:51 am · #22

I'm gonna photoexplode on his car! if he'll let me...

but yeah, once that Z guy figures all that out, it should be a pretty cherry solution.  if you only had to go a degree or two, you may not need heims and all that stuff, but I'm at a solid -3.5 rear camber now, with more to drop, so I'll need everything I can get.
