do you want useable power, or just to impress people with 400hp?

Now brewster, be mindful of the would-be dyno queens, man (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Seriously tho, brewster has a point... there's more to a high-performance car than all-out power. If you can't get it to the ground and KEEP it there, what's the point? Suspension is more important than all-out power IMO.

Hell, as long as you are 200hp or better in a 2600 lb. car, you NEED to turn your attention to suspension.

Probably want a bigger turbo and injectors for 400hp. But to make that power usable is another story. I say build the head to withstand 9000rpm and a bomb a$$ clutch to go with it. It's been done before so search to see what other people have needed to do to make that 400hp mark possible. I suggest Nicoclub.com

On a stock block ca minus greddy HG and ARP headstuds I made 280 on a t-28 and 550's. Go figure I blew the bearings the next day at the track. So be prepared for a lot of time, $$$$ and work.

Block and head prep is very important on a CA. Pay VERY close attention to oil control.

No point building an engine with everything under the sun in it, only to have it pump all it's oil out of the breathers and spinning a conrod bearing.

You forgot FMCI, exhaust, fuel management... oil control... I would get an oil cooler or something (increases oil capacity in a sense)

tomei makes/used to make a ca stroker kit.

i'd get the block and head o-ringd. get the whole thing balanced too

Umai NaaSep 9, 2008, 5:26 am · #11

O-ringing is pointless these days. Too prone to leaking. A good metal head gasket, and ARP stud kit will be far superior.

As for a stroker kit, HKS used to do them, as well as Tomei. They're discontinued now, and have been for quite a while. There's a HKS kit for sale in Australia right now, for about $3K AUD.

When I mentioned oil control, I wasn't just referring to coolers, and larger sumps, either. Should have been more specific. Larger oil return galleries in the head and block are needed, same goes for an external drain line in the rear of the head. The standard oil pump is more than adequate with supply, but once the oil gets up to the head, the easiest way out, is through the breathers, instead of th return galleries. I actually went as far as modifying the baffles in the cam covers on mine to stop this.

VGs and RBs have very similar problems, as they're essentially of the same design.

Chris1986, what turbo are you planning on using? A guy in Asutralia is currently using a Trust TD06 L2 on a Trust short-runner manifold on his, for 300kw at the rear wheels. His cams are Tomei 264/8.8s from memory, but with solid lifters.
