headlight sensor (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) Mk2?

Timing belt cover...you have to remove the fan belt pulley to get the top cover off, and remove the crank pulley to get the lower cover off.....

David BMay 29, 2008, 8:25 pm · #10

i took allthe pulley's off

but the last one, with the big ass bolt,
that wont come off, if i turn it, the pulley spins with it.

ughh, please help, i need to loosen the belt sop i can throw it on

If you look at the box itself, usually there is a sticker on it that tells you what its for. You may have to gently clean it (as to not remove the writing on the sticker) but otherwise

download the factory service manual

that is in the general tech section, pinned at the top

and it will have all those answers, including pictures and a procedure for removing the timing belt, including the cover. Getting the crank sprocket off can be a bitch tho. Don't rotate the crank without the belt on as you'll bend the valves. Set the engine to top dead center (TDC) on the #1 cylinder before disassebly, it will help greatly in case anything goes wrong.

The easiest way to break the pulley bolt free is with an impact gun. If you don't have one of those, and if you have a manual tranny....pull up the parking brake all the way, and put it in 5th gear, then use a socket wrench with a breaker bar for leverage. You may need drown the bolt with some good penetrating lube for a few mins first.

David BMay 29, 2008, 8:50 pm · #13

i got it off,
i stood on the wrench and used some liquid wrench also, and it came looose,

the big bolt is off,
but the i guess its called the crank shaft pulley, will still not budge,
now what?

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) this might work out

Most guys say just to wedge behind it with screwdrivers or small pry bar a bit at a time, being careful not to damage whats behind the pulley and the pulley itself. Some heat may help, but don't torch the hell out of it, you'll ruin the front crank seal.
