Can I Use The Stock Fuel Pump?

I'm just looking to get my CA18DET running. It's in a 1987 200sx XE Notchback. I don't have high power goals. I have just a few things done:

2.5" exhaust, high flow cat, magnaflow muffler
K&N
Slightly bigger intercooler
Removed clutch fan for electric

I'm wondering if I can just use my stock fuel pump.

It's been taken for a test drive, and it starts to cut out a bit when the rpms get too high. Which suggests fuel pump, but perhaps the turbo has been increased over stock boost, since the car feels like 250hp.

I don't want to get a bigger fuel pump, cuz then I'll have to get a bigger AFM and get the computer remapped, and I'm not after that kind of power I just want it to work.

Any help is appreciated.

i purchased a DEt motorset and received a fuel pump from a 180sx. its too small for my higher HP needs, but it might be good for yours. lemmme know, and ill sell it cheap

getting a bigger fuel pump doent require any afm change or ecu remap... not sure where you got that info but its 100% wrong.. now if you upgraded a afm or injectors all you would need is a s-afc and not a remap

Ok, so I guess the problem is that my CA20E fuel pump isn't up to the task. So if I put a walbro 255 in it, then that should solve the problem without bringing up more right?

If you get the Walbro 255lph fuel pump make sure Fuel Pressure Regulator is good, otherwise you may find yourself running really rich.

I wouldn't recommend a Walbro... Get something that won't burn out. I bought a Bosch 023 (040 will work too), good to 700+ BHP and won't poop out like the Walbro.

My 190LPH pump crapped out on me after a year of use, and I won't recommend one ever again.

hmm wierd i ran a walbro 255 as well as many friends for years and never had any issues.. wonder if the 190's have a bug in them

The Walbro 255 is held in pretty high regard over here.

FWIW, I'm using a CA20 fuel pump (Of unknown age) on my CA18DET, with stock injectors and ECU, and high-flowed T25G. It's got plenty of fuel supply wink.gif

Are you using the stock t25? Also, what boost are you running, and what rpms does it cut out, and does it cut out at WOT, or just when the revs are high?

Mine use to cut out in 4th and 5th gear pulls @ WOT over 5-6k rpms @ 15psi on a t25g, and a Walbro 255. Ended up being I had the timing too far advanced at 20 degrees. I retarded it down to the stock 15 degrees and haven't had a problem since.
You might want to check your timing before you waste money on a fuel pump....just a thought.

I read up on all kinds of problems people have with them, and not just the tards complaining about running rich...
Could be a bug, but I'm sticking with the Bosch unit. Fits the S12's sender unit better anyway. The fuel pickup screen is on the bottom just like the stock pump, and is about the same diameter too.

I paid 160 on ebay for my 023, it's good for 700+ HP, so it should be more than though. laugh.gif
