Simply put, are the final drive gears(ring and pinion)from a C-trannied MkII "bolt" right into a B-trannied MkI. For that matter would any Z cars work?
I have a MkI with a B-tranny. I'm interested in swaping the final drive gears in my rear end to improve acceleration. If possible, I would prefer to swap the gears only. Would the axles be compatible or would I have to swap the entire rear-end assembly?

Mkii Rear End Into A Mki?
ALL turbos and ALL CA20E cars that are manual have the same ratios
the only one with a different ratio is the SE MKi MKii makes no indifference
they are all 4.11:1
and the SE is 3.90:1

It gets kinda complicated; The MKI has differnt bolts than the MKII. The Turbo diff has the better gear ratio for the the 4cyls(vs V6). You can fit an MKI and MKII on each diff, but the gear retaining bolts are diffesrent sized. I'm using a a MKII-Z32 carrier with a MKI ring and pinio; I have 10mm bolts holding a ring gear that was intended to use 12mm bolts. I'm at about 1500miles on this. So long-gevity I can't tell you.
It goes like this; Up to 'Mid '86 on the R200 has 10mm bolts in the ring gear-post Mid '86 has 12mm. They bolt staight up but you could slip the ring back and forth till it shears a bolt or it could last; I'm takin a chance ; so far so good; But only 1500 mi' so far.
^ hes asking about swapping the whole diff to get a better ratio, all the ratios on every 4cyl car were the same and the only one what was different was the V6 which wouldnt be an upgrade for a 4cyl
the only way to get a more desirable final drive ratio( 4.3, 4.6) is to find a long nose r200 ring and pinion. really just the pinion, though.
Heres my thoughts. The B transmission and C transmission have different ratios themselves, right? So technically speaking if the rear-ends had the exact same ratio, then a MKI and MKII would accelerate differently... So maybe I should go with a C trans instead. I don't care that its stronger than the B. My B is still quite strong. The main thing I am interested in is acceleration.
if your going that route grab yourself a c tranny from a s13 there designed with slightly longer gears and run a 4.10 in the rear for a final drive. CERTAIN nissan trucks have the same size r&p and you can get them as low as 4:56. search for the particular models i dont remember off the top of my head
Are s12's and s13's built on the same platform? Meaning, if I got a tranny out of a s13 would the driveshaft be a direct swap too? I don't like "homemade" driveshafts at all.
s13 is too long i think
LOTS of misinformation going on in this thread. Please search to find the answers to your questions as its all been asked before.
Heres the quick run down
CA20E cars have the R180 differential housing
CA18ET (turbo) cars and VG30E (SE V6) cars both have the R200
4.11 gears ONLY came in turbo models
CA20E cars were something like a 3.96 not sure of the exact ratio
VG30E cars were 3.60 or something similar again I'm not sure of the exact ratio off the top of my head.
Internals (differential and ring & pinion) are NOT interchangale between R180s and R200s.
You can swap a R200 into a R180 equipped car as long as you swap the side axles with it.
You can also swap a turbo's 4.11 gears into the R200 of a SE V6 model.
The internal gear ratios of all versions of the B and C transmissions are either the same or very close to the same.
S12s and S13s are NOT the same chassis but do share many components and overall structuring.
The S13 has the C trans and it's tailshaft is a little longer than the S12 C tran's tailshaft.

Thanks for setting me(us) straight.
What about 300zx cars. What would it take to get 300zx rearend into an s12? The only reason I ask is there are 2 of them at the local yard and no s12s anywhere. Would my driveshaft be compatible with the 300z rearend? What about control arms and brakes. Would I need to swap everything? I could always order online, but If I can avoid shipping fees, thats money I can spend elsewhere. This is my daily driver and I'd like to drop rpms on the highway, so I'm interested in swapping in the vg30e setup.
