today whilst getting a new ca20e head for my racecar (old one had a crack in the journal) i found an 86 200sx that was straight and clean in the salvage yard. they will sell it to me for cheap (about 400$) but do not have the title. they even gave me the name of a lady who will do the paperwork to title 42 it, but i have never dealt with this before. i want to build it into a daily driver with a ka motor, but am a little wary about trying to get a clean title for it. im buying it anyways, spare parts for my racecar wouldnt hurt, but wanted to know if anyone has ever done this before and knew a little more how it works.

In Oregon, it's just filing for lost title. It's doable, just kind of a pain in the ass.

thats kinda what they told me, about it being a lost title. the lady told me i just have to fill out a short form, they submit it to see if its stolen or something, after a few weeks if no one submits anything then they clear it. she charges 45$. i guess ill find out when i pick up the car... thanks

i also think that as long as someone claims it (such as the yard owner) and can provide a bill of sale, you can get a title for the car. atleast thats how it works in CT

In WA if you get a car without a title, you have to send 3 certified letters to the last registered owner's house. If you get them back, then you take them to the DMV and file for a Bonded Title. You have to take the car through State Patrol for inspection. Once its cleared State Patrol, you turn in the paperwork and you get a bonded title..

Pretty much, you don't get an unrestricted title. The car is registered in your name, and if no one claims the car within 3 years, they issue you an unrestricted title..

at least you CAN do that....or anything similar....we cant do SHIT. If a car hits a junkyard, we cannot physically buy it back out of it, unless they hacksaw it into two halves, and deliver both halves as parts.

that sux! i was afraid of something like that, but after talking to the guy at the yard and the lady that was going to handle the paperwork, i felt a little better. i just couldnt let a perfectly good car go to the crusher. the 2nd 200sx i bought got stolen before i could fix it up, and i have wanted one for the streets for a long time, and i have only seen ONE driving around in oklahoma, and thats the one i bought and subsequently was stolen... with any luck it will work out. if not, ive got spare parts for my racecar. either way, i win!

This is usually doable, it may require a simple state inspection in the end, but its just paperwork, basically. In IL you can retitle a junked car, it just has to go thru inspection (whether you have to weld the two halves back together is another story....)

jeeze... thats easy...

in NC i do beleve that you must submit a finders fee of about $75 THEN after a few weeks, they charge you $200+...

ive never done it but this is what i was told by people who had...
