This past weekend I pulled out the blower set up and headers. I replaced the headers with a modified set of cast 200sx manifolds. I bolted them on facing the front of the car and made a cross over pipe that puts the turbo where the battery sat. I still have to make a down pipe and make a new alternator bracket that drops it down 2" or so but it coming along nicely. I'll post pics soon
Front Mount Turbo Project
Oh snap ! I wanna see some pics.
Very nice front mount idea...i liked the SC set up...why'd you change??
you got to post pics...im dieing to see
thats cool.
if you need any idea on this setup.. you should check out.

mcVery nice front mount idea...i liked the SC set up...why'd you change??It worked very nicely but I want more power and the blower limited me to 7psi with the pulley size I picked.
you could have had Pulley custem made.
unless your felt that your supercharge was reaching the end of its serivice life?
I guess you were tired of Wine and wanted wooshing snails instead...
falkhenyou could have had Pulley custem made.I had a custom pulley made for the crank that was $650 because its 8" in diameter..the one on the blower is special and can't be made smaller because it has a clutch built into it. The blower will max out at 12-14 psi I just don't care to have another pulley made. Also I do like the swooshing sound better. Anyways here it is http://s738.photobucket.com/albums/q254/dinidium/ you may have to look through there are only 10 pics of the turbo and 40 of the blower.

Question for you: so you used the stock manifolds from the SE, and put the right one on the left side and vice-versa? What exactly did you do to modify them? This is a great way of doing it, I've been telling people who want to turbo their VG's this for years lol! So much simpler than dealing with a stock-location unit. I think I would have mounted it on the other side where the MAF used to be to make turbo oil/coolant lines, but it really doesn't matter. At least your piping will be short! You are planning on running an intercooler, correct?

You are planning on running an intercooler, correct? The passenger side fits on the driver side without mod. The driver side to passenger side is the problem. I welded 2 new ears on cylinder #1 so it could be bolted to the head. and yes I'm running an intercooler its a modified spearco for a mazda miata 10" x 28" that fits stealthy in front of the radiator.
OK so I started her up last night and to my surprise the ecu and maf I got were good. Smooth idle and it reved without hesitation. I need to get an alternator belt before I can road test it but I think its going to be happy. It sounds awesome you can dominantly hear the turbo even with no exhaust. I'll post some more pics later..... off to find a belt!
take a pic pls of the manifold ears
OMG so awesome ive been trying to find a place to remote mount a t3
never thought of flipping the manifolds cuz i was going to do custom manifolds
Ok so I finished the exhaust and gave it a road test. With no cat, 2.5" piping and flowmaster 40 series.... Car is super quiet to my suprise until the external wastegate opens..hehe. Everything seemed really happy until it hit over 6 psi. Shit leaned out so fast it was like it fell off a wall. I think I need to reinstall the choker on the fuel return line.... I was really hoping the turbo ecu would work with out it... oh well.

I think I had an air leak cause I took it out again and it blew a boost tube... after fixing it.... holy fucking shit . i get 9psi at around 3500 rpms and the ass end wants to pass the front. I'll try to make a video clip of it. I'll at least post some pics when I get a chance.
Nice location.
You should make an intake duct under your passenger headlight like 2" Tall by 6" wide to breath cold air on it
I cant wait to see it...

I posted some more pictures.. You can see the wastegate and how it dumps It comes out next to the oil pan... I'm hoping it will blow out fire when I'm beating down on the highway. How would you like to see a car fly up your ass at night with fire balls blowing out on the ground under the engine. Theres also a few pictures of the oil feed and coolant lines. The oil feed is brake line that I ran down to where the oil sender hooks up.
cool setup. good job.
nice set-up I always thought the front mount remote turbo would be a good Idea for the vg
this thread is just one big lack of pictures. i need pictures.
frosti108this thread is just one big lack of pictures. i need pictures. There is definitely pictures you just have to look. In the beginning of the thread I posted my photobucket account. There will be more taken when I finish it completely.
nice work man... cant wait to see some et's and dyno runs....
If you still have your SC, send me a PM with some info on it, i might be interested in buying it.
There's a guy named SATAN from the z31 forums that makes front mount manifolds. They look like they'd fit. http://88hybrid.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4304. You can't have a/c but most guys here don't car about that.

I believe I heard the tune of $1000 for a set?

It's $600 for just the driver's side manifold you have to use a z31 passenger's manifold and crossover. Actually, is there even enough room for the crossover behind the engine on an s12? I've only actually seen under a v6 s12's hood once before, so I don't remember. He also makes twin turbo manifolds, but he charges $1200 and you have to ditch the powersteering. His work is supposed to be top notch, but I agree it's too expensive. You could always try to copy it yourself but, I'd imagine it takes quite a bit of skill.
OK so all the hard stuff is done I just have some tuning issues to work out... The choker needs to go. I have a 300zx turbo ecu and I'm running 9psi so I shouldn't need it. My injectors are venom hp630's they are supposed to be 10% bigger then the stock n/a injectors. Even so I don't think they are as big as stock turbo injectors. Can anyone lay some truth to this or does anyone know the size of both turbo and n/a injectors.I tried researching on Z-31performance but I just get a smart ass answer with 10 people to parrot the smart ass answer.
at stock fuel pressure the 300zx turbo injectors flow 260cc....n/a injectors are 180cc....,your RRFPR/choker will make your n/a injectors larger only if you increase the fuel pressure....your still having problems working out the bugs??
I'm still trying to decide if I think this is better -- or not -- than simply using two stock VG30E manifolds and mounting a smaller T25 on each.
And I'm leaning towards not. But I'd still like to see how this turns out.
mcat stock fuel pressure the 300zx turbo injectors flow 260cc....n/a injectors are 180cc....,your RRFPR/choker will make your injectors much larger....your still having problems working out the bugs??
If your right the bugs I have are my that venom injectors are simply not big enough. Off to the junk yard... hope the donor car is still there.
you will be happy when you get the turbo injectors installed...i used stock n/a injectors with the RRFPR[set at max pressure for the fuel pump] and it worked decent but when i finally installed the correct turbo injectors it pulled strong all the way..no fall off....i still use the RRFPR since i plan to keep increasing the boost..once i get the WB O2 installed i will be able to fine tune the RRFPR settings...good luck.

I didn't get to road test it yet, uninsured for the winter, but it starts way faster moves around like it should. No more leaning out at idle. Maybe if the roads dry up later I'll make a quick pass around the block.
So I got to make a pass around the block.... goes dangerously lean after 10 psi and my clutch slips. The A/F ratio is decent up to 10 psi though.. around 13.1. Also the clutch didn't slip with the blower so I'm guessing the turbo makes alot more power.

come on,

this thread just got soo much better. Just quote me, and edit the first post to include my text
I must say, very nice build. But for gods sake, pick up a decent oil filter
Wow...Definately got me thinking with this build. I thought it would be possible to do the single front mount, seems you did a pretty good job. Would also like to see someone with a twin setup, for a pro/con comparison
87VG30EWow...Definately got me thinking with this build. I thought it would be possible to do the single front mount, seems you did a pretty good job. Would also like to see someone with a twin setup, for a pro/con comparisonThats next year. I need bigger injectors and Nistune to get what I can out of this set up. I'll probably rock it all summer and next winter I'll do a twin set up. That is unless some one else beats me to the punch.
wow, props for accomplishing it! Looks a little messy, but if it works, who cares!
Just a word of advice, get that a/f down under 12:1 (11.8-11.9) just to be safe. Once your ready to tune, you can flatten the curve, move timing and lean out for power later on a dyno. I've blown up plenty of cars that I *thought were rich enough
nismologisthell yeah man. fuck cleaning it...get her running around laying rubber first.I'm looking for a clean shell to swap my set up into instead of trying to clean this one up. Its not rotted out but its been a daily driven Pa car its whole life and there is surface rust starting in the pinch welds and weird places you cant really fix. There is actually a small hole in my driverside shock tower but the rest of the metal surrounding it is fine. I cant imagine why it rotted through like that. I keep it indoors as much as possible and dont drive it in the winter anymore.... the rust hasn't progressed any further the last 5 yrs or so but it will never be a show car.
I finally got the bad boy in place and have a down pipe started. I'm waiting for my new wastegate before I go any further. I ordered a turbo smart 45mm with v-band clamps... Its the smallest body size thats available as far as I know that still flows. From pictures it looks to be just a hair bigger then a standard tial 38mm. Also I have another issue... really its just with the car though... When I was hammering in my aprin to make room for the turbo I noticed that the spot welds ripped out after 2 hits with a small hammer.. the strut towers are welded in with maybe a dozen spot welds about 3" apart from each other. I'm considering seam welding everything in the car if thats how the whole thing was assembled.
Down pipe just missing everything.

My synapse blow off valve welded in. If you have never heard of synapse they use a piston instead of a diaphram and valve. High flowing and faster responding
I don't really like the 90 bend on the turbo outlet it doesn't quite fit right. It will work for now I'll make an aluminum bend later on.
A good veiw of my crossover pipe
This is my exhaust which still needs to be finished welded, a couple of flanges and hangers need to be be made yet.

How long till its running? I hope all stuff works out for you
omgwtfbbq.
holy inspiration
i did not think it would even come close to fitting where you put it
my turbos are smaller and will fit for sure with the turbo inlets facing forward.
you have to take vids of it.
this project defines the word WIN.
nismologistthis project defines the word WIN.Thanks for the kind comments. I hope to have it running in a few months. There will definately be some video.
i am coming to see this when it's done.
I like the borla muffler =D very muscle car like!
what else is needed to make it run?
