ive been at this for days and tryed everything to remove the fucker with the exception of cutting it off. whats the best way to do it without fuckin up the crank? i already tryed prying, heat, and pulling with a gear puller + drilling/tapping holes and the thing refuses to move more then a few millimeters.
Damn Timing Gear
well if you can get a flat head screwdriver in there against the crank gear and on the oil pumps outer cover you can leverage it forward, move the screwdriver over a bit and repeat. as long as you do not go too far down wit the screwdriver you will at most dent the oil pumps outer cover which is just to protect the internals and can take it.
your other option is to source a new timing gear (i got mine from advance auto for 25 bucks shipped they are a parts america store if you dont have them nearby) and use a cutting disc to cut off the old gear.
i had little issue using the screwdriver method as i stayed near the rim of the gear where it has a groove for pulley pullers to sit.
Funny, my roomate has the exact same thing sitting in the garage right now. He tried the 2 screwdriver method and broke one yesterday.
He's going to try to get a low profile pulley puller, if that dosen't work he's going to drill it out.
Good luck.
I had to sacrafice an old oil pump to get one off once. I had a new oil pump for the motor anyway. I just took the oil-pump bolts out and put the gear puller around the pump and used the old pump to pull the gear. The oil pump(aluminum) broke apart till I could get directly on the gear. I later had to pound the timing belt guide behind the gear to a usable shape. Not the best way I'm sure, but thats what I did.

Heat the gear NOT THE CRANK, fairly hot but not enough to damage it.,.,.,.,.,
Get 2 flat chisels or wedges or puller. Place a chisel/wedge on either side and put a little pressure oOn it by driving in the punches or wedges down.,.,.,.,
Then take a brass, lead or dead blow hammer and tap the crank.,.,.,.,.
Should break it free
If not repeat
HEAT,
PRESSURE,
SHOCK.
oh clean the end of the crank and lube it...grease anti seize etc.....be careful of spray lubes they just catch on fire!!!
and if using a puller.......
After putting heat on it quickly tighten it TIGHT!!
Then smack it(the puller)hard with a regular hammer on the tension bolt that sits against the crank
Its the SHOCK that breaks it loose, when we press cranks apart we put pressure on the crank, heat it, then hit the press itself not the crank and BANG it falls apart.
If it starts to pull but stops....Drive it back on....Let the crank cool.....clean and lube the crank again and repeat.......heat, pressure, shock.
Hope this helps!
Remove the crank from the block, with the oil pump and gear attatched, and have a shop press it off for you.
Don't worry about the oil pump, as you've already fkd that one anyway. Don't forget to order a new gear, and have the front of the crank re-dressed so that the harmonic balancer goes back on, providing you didn't damage that too, when you removed it.
