I know the rear end of a s13 will fit into into my 86 hatch with IRS. Will the s14 and s15 rear ends fit too? I need to know ASAP!!

no your car has a r180 diff , the 240's r200 will not fit.

None of those are direct bolt ons, not the s13 either. What application would this diff be going torward anyway if you want an oppinion on which diff you should use?

I want to swap the entire rear end of my hatch. More so I want a 5 lug rear. What would it take? Sub frame I know, but what other mods would need to be done??

SpooledJun 8, 2007, 5:51 pm · #5

Like they said above, you cannot swap in an S13 diff.  They use a different (shorter) version of the R200 than the S12 uses.  As for 5-lug swap - you might as well just get the whole rear suspension from an SE S12, or an 85-87 Z31.  Then you will have an R200 and 5-lug hubs.

Yep thats what I did and installed the lsd while I was in there works great!

Awesome, thanks for all the replies. I'll be hitting up all the junk yards in the area for parts. How much work is involed in swaping out the rear end? OH and what kind of LSD is in the Z31 diff? Cluth or viscous? If its viscous, is there a way to convert it to Cluth?

Once you get the r200 you can install whichever lsd  you like. I used a cusco but the OE vlsd out of the skyline is also a good choice cheap and eas to come by. Just need to make sure of the ring gear bolt size 10mm or 12mm I have used a 10mm lsd with a 12mm ring gear(Just had the diff machined and tapped to 12mm) but I would not recommend it for the street just to be safe.

The lsd swap is outlined on another thread with drawings for the axle mods.

anyone know the difference? I've recently been told of a "locking" differential Infiniti offered on the 90's with a 3.917 gear.

To be clear this was supposed to be functionally similar to a VLSD/ LSD/ posi-type rear, but mechanically different.

SpooledJun 11, 2007, 8:49 pm · #10

Nissan/Infiniti have never put out a locker type diff in any vehicle.  They make too much noise.  Look up a Detroit Locker for info on locking type diffs.  Pretty much only 4x4's use them.

the lsd's on z31's are clutch and if you find a few, let me know, ill buy one.

Thanks Spooled, differential stuff makes my head hurt.

A friend from UK explained to me that only the turbo Z31 anniversary model of '89 has LSD and is hard to find.

While I've been told by forum people and a diff builder, that it will fit, I've not seen one done yet.

I've heard a rumour about someone who has one on this forum though.

You should definitely buy it and tell us how you go.
If you do, I'll give you 20 points for being a pioneer

Yes it should fit

Radracer_SJun 14, 2007, 7:13 pm · #17

Depends on the gear ratios cuz there are different types of h190s. What's the gear ratio on it?

oldschoolsilviaJun 14, 2007, 9:31 pm · #18

It should be between 3.70 to 3.89 because its 4wd. The S12 is 3.70 with a manual transmission I believe and 3.89 when auto.... So it should work, I dont know why that much of a difference would have any effect on it? Could be wrong I guess?

Someone feel free to let me know im curious myself?

OzchuckJun 15, 2007, 5:10 am · #19

Well the only thing to change that might affect it is the splines for the axles, which sometimes change, but it should be good.

asparagusJun 15, 2007, 5:51 pm · #20

the turbo anniversary model has a viscous type diff, and the previous turbo models ( i dont remember what years ) had the clutch type instead which is what most people prefer

Ok I'm planing on doing this swap next week. What I'm looking for is auto-x/ drift setup. I found a junk yard right down the street from my new shop that got plenty to pick from. I saw about 10 300zx's, 3 S13, and 1 complety gutted S14, so I've got a decent selection car to pick from.

Like I said I'm looking for a good drift/auto-x steup, this is what I'm looking for out of this car.

I'm hoping later this summer to build my KAT and have that in, so I'll be ASking for more help soon.
