I found this in the oil pan when i took it off

Is that the chain tensioner?

Well.....I think we can all agree that finding objects in your oil pan is not a good thing

looks like the oil pressure relief valve that sits in the bottom of the front cover just below the oil pump.... but, the bigger spring looks like the one out of the top tesioner????

OK, i had a look at my spare front cover, it is the oil pressure relief valve.

its located on the alternator side of the motor, and goes into the bottm of the engine below the oil pump. piston first, then the big spring, then the crved washer to locate the spring, and finalty the circlip.

not to sure on the other spring and washer though...maybe someone tried to put two springs in there to strengthen it up??? possibly turbos run two springs as my spare cover is a NA one...

Is this hard to do? And does anyone have any pics on the assembly?

www.fj20.com has an fj20 engine manual. im pretty sure its described there.

well, i WAS gonna say that that is your bypass valve..but i see thats already been covered smile.gif
