Hey guys!
my CA20ET is about to hit the dirt.
I am going to get an Auto loan and get a new Engine.
I am Highly interested in the RB20DET. it's a Fairly unique 200SX swap.
It'd be awesome.
my other option is the red or black top SR20DET. .....too many people use it, but hey, it's a good swap.
CA18DET is kinda gay too....
So, I'm thinking, WILL THE RB20DET FIT???
thanks,
Mark

Rb20det, And Sr20det
yup just ask draconis, and search a little there are pics everywere of it,lol
Nothin wrong with having a popular engine. Finding sr20det specific upgrades and parts is probably easier than finding rb20det stuff
Mark04 Hey guys!
CA18DET is kinda gay too....
It is? Explain... ('wtf')
word.
I knew when he said that it would piss some people off
k no ofence to anyone but this is me speeking out loud.
all the turbo nissan engnes are cool but they can all have there dis advatiges in sertine chasses. so for this like wieght chassie the best motors are the ca18det -fg20det and the sr20det or you can do what im doing if it is a v6 cross member and puy the vg30dett in it.
the problem with the rb20 is the weight its heavy has ok power and its to cramed in the engine bay so power to wieght rashio is kinda bad . the one good thing is it spools up quike and is a good motor but its all about prefornce so do what you wanta. you should do reshearch on the motor and capablity of motor and set up in you chassie as long as you have the time and money you can do anything but if you want reliability you can do the easyst swap with is a ca18det and put som cash into it . then you dont havr to chang anthing ecepy the motor harness and ecu by far best bang for your buck . but like i said prefornce. think of it this way the ca18det is the sames as the de but acouple of lil things lik compesion and intake manafold and some others so this is easy to get parts for the sr is the same way in the sentra but the head is configured a lil diffrent so you might need to get a rwd head (ebay). i come from the stand point , i work in a shop and have expeiacne with all this so do your homwork if you need help with anthing email me or go on aim and hit me up once again this is my oenion and yes i have do this befor in a nother add i did put a rb25 in my buddys s12 but it was two heavy and to mutch work so we ran it for a mounth and then took it out and put the ca18det in it so homework for you and find the best engine for you dont go do somthing thats gona take alot of time matnieans and money unless you have it .thats it (my thoughts out load )remember quait me on this (we do have the technolage to fuck it up) ttyl
The RB20DET does fit. It's not a fun fit nor is it an easy swap. If you have money/time/good technicians, I say go for it. If you're trying to do it in your garage, it's a no go. The amount of work it takes when doing it right is not as easy as it seems for us Americans as it is for the Aussies. I dont know why, but all that information I got from the Aussies does not seem to work for us.
Only do the RB20DET if it's much cheaper, otherwise it won't justify all the extra work.
Thats why people use it here, cos it's a cheap engine.
Tough to by the way.
If you want to be different put in a 13B .

OK GUYS. About the CA18DET comment..........I just think it seems to be a heavy piece of cast iron, .......I dunno, But I guess It's a great engine to swap.
So, I'll think about the CA18DET Swap. ..
I hear from alot of people though, unless you tune it just right, you'll be putting alot of money into the CA18DET. One of my friends told me that they need alot of work. More so than the 4G63.
A 13B would be neat too. ......or a 3 Rotor. haha....they make good torque.
13B seems kinda Weak though...
Anyways, thanks for your comments. I'll look into every swap, and see what I can do.
It'd be sweet to be able to make a RWD DSM Engine. ......you can with the AWD one, but putting in a Viscus lock in the Diff.
20B for the win.
Not cheap though.
From all accounts turbine smooth and '206kw' stock (ie more then that).
If you are going an RB do an RB25, the RB20 is cheap but the RB25 is just as easy/hard to fit and is bigger. RB26 costs a mint, i'd go 1J or 2J over an RB26. I'd go the toyota motors over the RB25 as well actually.
In oz at least the 1J is a cheap engine, the R154 gearbox is expensive but actually cheaper then an R33 RB25 manual so might as well stick with the superior toyota powerplant.
If you really want to you can run the 1J with a W58, apparently they can last quite a while if you aren't silly with power, cheaper then replacing a R154 to.
OK First of all ... if you are going to go RB ... go the biggest possible for the price. RB20 is probably a bad option unless you factor in that once its in you can always put an RB25/6/30 in its place because the hard work is done
ie. RB25 is probably the bang for buck option in the RB series.
Ignore people who say "oh the extra weight would kill it" bla bla bla ... RUBBISH!! If the extra weight comes with extra capacity then who cares!!!!
CA's are small. SR's are junk. FJ is the ultimate in 4 cylinder nissan configuration. No questions about it.
RB25 can make close to 400 rwhp ... show me an SR that makes that without going all out on making the thing hold together. AND THEN IT WILL JUST BREAK ANYWAY UNLESS YOU KEEP IT FRESH! Likewise for the CA.
At the end of the day ... 140 rwhp / litre IS EASILY ACHIEVED with a well sized turbo for the chosen application. Anymore than that and it takes a little more work or you sacrifice reliability. So look at it like that and compare weight/price/whatever you choose.
CA18 252rwhp
SR20 280rwhp
FJ20 280rwhp
RB20 280rwhp
RB25 350rwhp
RB26 364rwhp
VG30 420rwhp
VH41 574rwhp
VH45 630rwhp

Thats pretty well true that hp thing.
Like they say no replacement for displacement, if all else is equal then the bigger engine will make more power.
I still say 1J hehe.
On the upside the turbo is on the opposite side to your steering and brake booster etc on USDM cars, thats got to help you out with fitment.
I always wanted to put a 1J in somthing...
Oh yeah don't forget to think about how much power you really need and weigh up all your options, dollar vs time/ease of install vs power and get your optimal balance.
20b wont work, not to mention being a super gas guzzler. 13b works though. i dont get why ca18dets are "gay" they are strong iron block engines.
NebuchernezzerOnly do the RB20DET if it's much cheaper, otherwise it won't justify all the extra work. That's what Nik (Abunai S12) was gunna do w/ his SE V-6... He has this thing w/Rotorys... Has anyone actually done it? And does it work? I know it would make it alot lighter.
Thats why people use it here, cos it's a cheap engine.

Hey.. I did mine in my garage..
For ease of install an reliability I would opt for a CA18det. Then again, i've already got an RB25.
I hope you understand what you're getting into.

CA18DET is a great motor! i would say go FJ! tryin to find parts for an fj will be just as difficult as one for an RB. Plus an RB weight 500+lbs! just my two cents....
ca18 is a great motor. fj ftw.... cant wait till randy builds his.
