yeah. so my KA'd s12 blew up the hybrid tranny I was running. It was a mk2 CA20E manual box with a KA bellhousing on it. I broke a shift fork pretty violently at the last drift event, and big chunks were coming out the drain plug when I changed the oil. So I figured, why not try this s13 transmission I had in the garage on for size.
I used:
s13 KA manual tranny
front half of an s13 manual driveshaft (USDM only! JDM 180sx driveshaft didn't work, I tried this first)
stock s12 mount and crossmember and clutch slave cylinder
you also have to trim back about 2 inches of sheetmetal for the shifter, but honestly, it puts it in a WAYYYYYY better position than before (right within reach) and I can use any aftermarket s13 shifter now. And since I have no interior, I don't mind having an extra 2 inches cut out of the center console area.
but I just wanted to confirm that YES if you use the front half of an s13 driveshaft, you can run an s13 gearbox w/o any custom work or fancy driveshafts.
its sliding time!

s13 tranny in an s12 = success
i dont understand how you used the stock s12 mount. did you modify it like mine?
edit- are mk1 crossmember and mounts different from mk2's? that might explain it
bingo. sorry should have mentioned mk2 crossmember and mounts.
NeedCAforS13bingo. sorry should have mentioned mk2 crossmember and mounts.
so i can get mk2 tranny mounts and use em to bolt up the C tranny into my mk1 with the ca18 swap?
your talking about the short half the one that has that round mount thing atatched?
NeedCAforS13. . . and I can use any aftermarket s13 shifter now.
Not sure why you couldnt have done it before? if it was a MkII C Box.
BTW if you want a replacement "short" Cbox like the stock s12 . . . look under a hardbody pickup.
proly because he had a s12 B tranny before
no I had a C tranny before. with an s13 shifter (stock one). the top plate was different though, so I was forced to run a c's style short shifter that just replaces the shifter, instead of a B&M which is what I want to run but it replaces the whole top plate.
the mount was direct bolt up?
mk2 mount. are both SE V6 and XE ones the same mounts?
ragemk2 mount. are both SE V6 and XE ones the same mounts?
pretty sure they are...all the MKII used the same tranny so it would make sense...but then again it depends what engineer was smokin a dube when they decided that...
I've put a S13 det auto into mine.
Managed to use the s12 auto cross member, but to adapt between the two all that was required was 40mm square tube section. It needed 4 holes in it and 2 bolts joining it to two holes i drilled into the cross member. The two holes at the top need to be the exact size and location for the auto rubber mount bolts requiring angled ends in the tube to put the nuts on...

ok people, help me out here
MK1,MK2,C tranny,B tranny. what is this foreign language you speak of. i know datsun 510
sorry for the NOOB question,i just know that a datsun 510 with a ca18et is really, really friggin fast,LOL.
Mk1 S12 = 84 - 86
Mk2 S12 = 86.5 - 88
B trans = FS5W71B, Nissan's older trans with external shifter linkages.
C trans = FS5W71C, The newer trans that Nissan uses on damn near every RWD car, has internal shifter linkages and is for the most part the same as the 240sx's trans.

AHHH, now i'm in the know
Will the MkII trans mount bolt up to the MkI dogbone crossmember? Or do I have to get a MkII dogbone and mount and use that (And if so, will the MkII dogbone fit into the stock 4 holes on the MkI)?

I am really lost now... so you did use a full size ka trans? YES OR NO.
Then you used the Front half of the s13 driveshaft... ok... there should be no difference between the 180sx and the standard USD s13 240sx.
So..... PICTURES!@!!
Lets see them..

dude. you and I think alot alike john. I thought the 180sx driveshaft WOULD be the same as the standarnd US s13 driveshaft. but its not!!! it uses a larger spaced 4 bolt pattern on the middle flange. SO I had to steal the driveshaft out of my S13, and put the 180sx driveshaft in that car. overall lenths is the same between JDM and USDM s13 driveshafts, and they are interchangeable, but they're not the same.
and it is a full size KA tranny, YES. and holy crap its bosstaculaar. shifter is actually in the right spot now instead of hitting my dash. hahahhaa. pictures sometime, no girlfriend anymore, no camera. <3 maybe I'll get another girl with a camera.

Well, we will be doing a SR install video in about 3 weeks here, so if you could specify with an exact list of the parts you used for the fullsize trans that would be awesome, because then i can run a full size in this car instead of a hybrid.
Awesome, Awesome!
John
seems like u just need a mk2 tranny mount from a late model s12 w/ the C tranny. ill give it a try if anyone wants to donate a mk2 mount
Nemisis
Can't believe I have to bump my own shit.
dont do it to often...i have been told you will go blind...:p jk.
i tried to install a mk2 mount on my mk1 and it didnt line up with the hybrid ka swap trans neither did the mk1 mount so i had to run top half and bottem
transmission kinda like this http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_image...917_46_full.jpg
i have a 1986 200sx
how do i know what trans i have?
i saw above in an earlier post that b trans is up to 1986
and then c trans is 1986.5 and on
i think its an xe hatchback but what can i look for
i feel really stupid asking this btw
hey mods we need to pin this post... i will make a topic in the FAQ section today or tommorow
done
magikb33r: general rule of thumb with the '86 XE is that if it's a silvertop valve cover, it's an mk.II. if it's a blacktop valve cover, then ti's mk.I.
where does it say if i got a B or a C box? i've got an '84 hatch with a FJ20E.
There is a plate on the firewall. 6th line down it says FS5W71B or FS5W71C. the first is a B tranny, and the second is a C tranny. there is a four digit code after that...this is for your rear diff.
Does anyone know if S13 front half driveshafts are the same as the S14 front halves?

So let me get this straight....
I juss recently looked at that lil plate in my engine bay n saw that I have a C Tranny...so basically wat ur saying is that the KA tranny is a basic straight bolt in and lines up wit the mounts?
I kno u'd have to cut a lil to make the shifter fit, which i have no problem with. I do plan on swapping in a KA soon, IM juss trying to get as much info as I can about the tranny becuz from wat I read on the forum u can match up the belhousings...but since I have the C tranny I wanted to know if the ka tranny goes in and lines up easily. Knowing this will save me n my friends time with the swap if we dont have to mess with the bellhousings n gettin them on.
hooked on phonics worked for me too cuz.
fucking read. its all there. get wit it. yo.
my question is now anzwered.
I am guessing NeedforCA's ka s12 originally was an Mk2 vg30e with the C tranny. It still seems unclear when it comes to bolting up the s13 ka tranny in an Mk1 model with regards to the tranny mounts...
I thought that it was confirmed that a new mount needs to be made, or is that wrong?
Yeah Smallter that is what I am hearing but it doesn't seem to have been confirmed yet
Is it expensive to get a custom tranny mount made?
EternalNewbieDoes anyone know if S13 front half driveshafts are the same as the S14 front halves?
Holy old threads, lol
The S14 and S13 chassis are different wheelbases and the shafts are both different. You need a S13 USDM one specifically, with the carrier bearing on the front half (short-side) instead of the rear half (long-side).
Can you mate a FS5R30A tranny from a pathfinder (90 i believe) to the vg30 of an 88 200sx ?
im sure it will bolt to the engine, the chassis is a different story

71b manual trans which looked smaller that the 71c from my s12, yet same length.
So i took that tranny back, and pulled the tranny off the pathfinder.
That pathfinder tranny looks shorter...
Will measure tommorrow.
s12_200zxSo the measure is 31 inches from one end to the other.

How I rigged it in my car.... CA18DET with it's factory long C-trans.
Custom $7 motor mounts
Custom $5 trans mount
Shifter comes out here, the handbrake will have to be shortened or moved.
The stock B-trans driveshaft fits in the C-trans, the front half just needs to be shortened. By how much, I'm not entirely sure. Doing it this way would save you from sourcing a mk2 rear driveshaft, s13 front driveshaft, and mk2 trans mount if you're working with a mk1.
Holy freaking necrothread
It's stuck isn't it? it's not like it isn't already on the top of the first page anyway.
This thread is supposed to have useful info about swapping a long C trans into the s12. The only thing that has been established in it is that if you have a mk2 that already has a short C trans in it, you can do this swap. For a mk1, the process remains unclear.
When I started doing my swap, I thought I was going to need to find a mk2 trans mount and mk2 driveshaft. S12's are impossible to find in junkyards around here, and I don't even know what it would have cost to locate an out of state yard with a mk2 in it, have them pull the driveshaft, and ship it to me. Not to mention the fact that a new rubber mount costs $60 to replace the rubber mount on the S12 mk2 crossmember, which may or may not even work correctly based on

That the B trans and C trans use the same output splines is news to me, and it means that all I have to do is have my driveshaft shortened and rebalanced and my drivetrain will be complete. No matter what mounts you wind up using, that info alone is worthwhile to anyone swapping a mk1, since buying both a mk2 and s13 shaft, then throwing away your stock shaft, half the mk2 shaft, and half the s13 shaft is at best a huge waste of time, and more than likely a huge waste of money.
It isn't unclear, you just need to search, because I have an S13/14 trans in an Mark I ATX car, and have had a Mark I MTX car with one, too. I have pics of both mounts in both build threads, and both threads have link to each other because both cars shared the same motor/trans.
i took apart a 180sx ca18det jdm tranny case and swapped the s13 internals into a s12 c tranny case and it works completely fine! either or you want to do i used the s12 rear bellhousing and the s13 front bellhousing to complete the case even if you use all s12 c trans case it will still work being that the c tranny and 180sx tranny are interchangeable onto the jdm ca18det just the rear lengths for shifter and driveshaft are different.
So the question i have, I have an s13 tranny with an mk2 SE. Will the automatic transmount usable ?
or do I have to do the metal bar?
Garrett76zt on 08:54:45 PM / 14-Jun-06Dont forget the first and second gen Pathfinder C trans. Its basically a zx transmission. All you will need is a custom drive shaft.
Not sure why you couldnt have done it before? if it was a MkII C Box.

Noticed a few questions lately about a VG30E mated with a 240sx (s13) They do fit as I run one in mine.
Just need a VG30E bell housing to match it.
For some information, check out a few (including my build) threads
http://www.az-zbum.com/information.transmission.shtml
The second strongest Z31 manual transmission is the FS5W71C found in any 5 speed non turbo Z31. This transmission is internally the same as the transmission used in the 240SX, 180SX, Silvia, etc. A few people who have blown up their FS5R90As have swapped to the Z31's FS5W71C transmission and not had problems. A lot of 240SX owners have the 240SX version of this transmission mated to their SR20DETs and KA24DETs running 400+ hp with no problems. Any short throw shifter made for the 240SX (S12, S13, S14, S15) will fit perfectly in this transmission.
As also confirmed the z31 / 240sx FS5W71C (C Trans) is the same length as stated in the s12 using s13's you need to cut the sifter hole just a tad.
