hey guys, i was attempting to do the dual coil mod on my mk1 blacktop ca20e...am i wrong to just run the + and - wires from the secondary coil into the respective wires on the primary coil? i did that and the car revved all the way to redline, but it hesitated at about 4k. Could it be from the gauge of wire im using?

you don\'t nee to re-do the ground wire.  that should stay on the secondary coil.

What you\'re supposed to do is take the signal before the transistor...before the power is amplified.

16awg wire or larger should be sufficient.

I\'m not exactly sure how the mk.I ca20e\'s coils are though.  but I\'d expect the procedure to be the same.

lol for the MKII yes.  But the MKI has the cylindrical coils which don\'t utilize a transistor...it is old school tech.  To do those you did it properly...but check for corrosion it is a big thing with these cars... I still have to try this with mine...see if it makes any difference at all...I will confirm everything after I do it...which hopefully will be this weekend.

oh corrosion on the terminals? that may be it

I knew I didn\'t remember seeing transistors on my old car..haha :D

well even after cleaning the connecctions, it still hesitates after 3k...could it be the timing

Someone please answer this as I am wanting to do this mod on the weekend. I advanced the timing a \"few\" degrees, running 91 now and it runs, idles significantly better.
