That\'s the proper seal set for your trans. It\'s what I used on my 87, since they all use the same front and rear main seals.

84 Transmission #'s
I see my question was not exact.... I wanna find out what the gearing is in the different trannies so I can find the lowest one to use. The one I have now let\'s my RPM\'s get up there slow so I figured I have tall gears.
Ahh... I see.
Well, on the S12 the gear ratios on the VG are taller, but the turbo and XE models have the same. As far as I know, there aren\'t any actual S12 transmissions that have a close ratio.
You could find another FS5W71B transmission from another Nissan/Datsun and swap the internals into the S12\'s.
Your best bet would to get a lower geared rear end, but if it\'s your 84 turbo, it already has a 4.11:1... Which is the lowest that Nissan offered in these car, though you could probably snag a 4.6:1 from a JDM car with the R200 differential.
The problem with that though, is that the S12\'s R200 diff is a long snout case, so you have to be careful as to which R200 you get the ring/pinion from. Pretty much all newer Nissans with the R200 are short snout\'s, so an older one from like a Z31 Fairlady/300ZX would be your best bet.
you could also order a new Ring & Pinion in alot of different ratios from the Nissan Motorsports Catalog. I think they make both r180 and r200 R&P\'s. I can check next time I go into work.

Although it doesn\'t make TOO much of a difference, the Turbo trans actually had a different 5th gear ratio from the XE...
I remember that the turbo had .88? 5th gear, while the XE had .9something.
Eh, ah well.
But what do I know. Half the shit I say I remember I can\'t find the thread to back it up... so you\'re probably right on this one.
5th gear, what\'s that?
5th gear, what\'s that?
Hahahaha... I dunno Cheesy
But I do find that the engine is revving a bit to high at freeway speeds in 5th gear. I have cought myself trying to go for 6th, then realizing \"I was in 5th, on a 5 speed... Dammit\"
Hahaha, that also reminds me, when I get my CA18DET: I\'ll say \"Hello\" to Premium gas at over $3/gallon, and \"Goodbye\" to fuel economy... Fun fun fun.
Yeah, I\'ve noticed that too. 5th only seems to drop about 200RPM from 4th. lol
And you wanna talk about gas mileage? Heh, my SR20DE, when I got it, ran 18MPG. They changed the fuel map to add fuel in the upper RPM/load range, makes maybe 4 more HP, but eats fuel like crazy.
I put it back to, I think, original normal fuel map, but I still only get 20MPG... Though I do drive pretty hard too, but still.
It seems my 88 ca20e has a closer ratio trans than the 84 too bad the end shaft is 75mm longer
Hey, just wondering... What does your engine bay tag plate read on your 84 and your 88 XE? It\'s on the firewall next to the stamped VIN.
The numbers I\'m interested in are the transmission model and rear axle number.
Gotta check tomorrow. I feel bad for stripping the 88 but I have no room for it. Retired @ 91, 678 miles!
Isn\'t there a difference beyween manual tranny cars and automatics? I thought the automatics run a \"higher\" ratio in the rear diff. to compensate for the lesser gears of the automatic tranny.
i was wondering whats the pros and cons with welding the differential.
pros
-quick launch
-easy sliding
-cheaper than a 2way lsd
cons
-No really sharp turns or youll slide
other cons
tire wear
and some popping or clicking from rear
I was wondering how well the search feature worked?
