i know some people on this board have their diff\'s welded. i can have mine done for free, but i am a little concerned. i was told that it will snap the rear axles like nothing. has anyone broken anything because of their welded diff. any help is greatly appreciated.

welding your differential
welded diffs are only good for 2 things: drifting and drag racing. You can\'t drive a car normally with a welded diff.
welded diffs are the best thing in the world next to a REAL 2 way LSD. seriously. for daily driving its sorta... ehh... just because you start to worry about stuff like \"can i make a u turn there (which is now a 6 point turn)\" etc etc.... BUTTT if you plan to DRIFT it, or you like swinging donuts... well WELD IT RIGHT NOW! or if you drag race it and are SICK OF 2.4 60\' times... WELD IT RIGHT NOW! its REAL easy to weld it. I wouldn\'t worry about the axles. Axles are strong enough. the only REAL stress on them is when you\'re making tight turns and the tires scrub. But like for racing/drifting etc its no problem because theres no real stress on them during burnouts etc.
Want proof? here is a video of my buddy swinging donuts in my old Corolla wagon before i sold it. http://www.noliftshift.com/video/donutswidescreen-1.wmv[/a] that was his first time trying to swing the 70 hp monster and he didn\'t quite get it down, but i swung donuts in it like a fricking champion. it was the best free mod i\'ve ever done in my life.
oh and if you break an axle, fuggg it, its just an S12 and you can find a new one for cheap. you\'ll still have another axle to limp home with. Smiley

BULL SH!T!!!!!!!!!!! I drove that wagon normally with a welded diff. ALL of the guys who have placed at the local drift events have WELDED DIFFS they drive daily.

i know plenty of guys who daily drive welded diffs. :mike:
Ya its not to bad I drive daily with a welded diff, turns arent bad unless your trying small sharp turns then you will slide a bit. I would say go for it definately its very useful.
well i am just going to weld that ish. i have another car as a daily driver. i drove my uncles 57 ford pickup, he welded the diff, and honestly its not as bad as i thought. swings a little but you can adjust your driving to it. someone should post a sticky on how to weld you diff. oh and as for sharp turns, i live off of a windy ass road that i have to drive to get to town. but it just equals more seat time.
I\'ll make a how to on the diff welding and host it on my site. i\'ll update you when i do it. (probobly a week or so?)
i already know how, i m not a complete idiot. weld the spyder gears together. i just suggested it for others, dee dee dee
[carlos mencia]You\'re so retarded![/carlos mencia]
haha what can brown do for you?
Weld that $#!T. If you worried about U turns they are a little bouncy Unless you dump the clutch and spin the tires. Come on if it\'s for a drift car drift the parking lot, drift the U turn, Slippin is the smoothest way. As for breaking axles the only thing you have to do is tighten up the halfshaft bolts every couple weeks or so.
i welded it today. decent welds, should hold. car feels a little weird but i think my ball joints are bad. i cant wait till 06 for altamont. hillkill, will u be joining us at altamont. i heard u moved south.
have you swung donuts or drifted in it yet? its a total night and day difference huh?
i get a little more understeer when i enter a donut but nothing bad. i have to fix the rest of the suspension, its all pretty jacked. i have a blown front right shock and bad ball joints. there is a noticable difference though. i like :p
I\'m down in the OC right now but will be back up for winter break in a week or so. We should hit up some turns when I get back :evillaug:

i believe i posted this on the old board way back when it still worked; regardless, since i can\'t find this info with a search, i\'m posting it again. http://www.precisiongear.com/powerbrute.htm[/a] has applications for the r180, r200, and \"4 cyl pickup rear\", which could mean an h-series rear diff; you\'d need to call them for more info. these guys make a 6.7\" toyota lsd that has garnered attention in the 3rd gen celica community and i figured someone here would have the time to check on this possibility, especially since i have not kept up on s12 knowledge advancements for a while.
hope this helps someone out!
