H190 Gear Ratio options?!
are you wanting to replace the entire housing, or just the diff it self?
only the diff
You have to take the springs out and remove the axles. Then you can remove the cover to get at the diff (If you really want to leave the housing in the car).
It is much easier to remove the housing to replace the diff because at this point all you have to do is remove the driveshaft bolts and the 4 housing bolts and it will drop out.
Then all you need to do is unbolt the carrier bearing caps, making sure to mark then as to side and direction of installation, and it will lift out of the housing.
Also make sure to keep the shims on the correct side of the housing. If nothing else it will give you a starting point for setting up the backlash.
Did any other car come with a H190 rear end? i\'d like to install some lower gears (steeper) to give my car more low end grunt. Anyone know if like a 4wd truck had them or something?
how much diff oil and where to put it in?
or must i pump through the bottom screw?

About 2liters.
There is a hole on the side of the diff that you refil through.
There are two plugs on the cover. The lower one is to drain and the upper is to fill. Just fill untill it starts to trickle out. It\'s pretty much fool proof.
get a diff from a 84 datsun ute theyre h190 but differant ratios.
if your driving at 50 the speedo will read 80
Hey guys, I was just wondering what it takes to put a IRS setup from a 87 s12 into a 85 s12 with the solid axle? Does it bolt in or is there a lot of modification to be done?
And one more question. I know all s13s sold in canada had VLSD. What about s12s? Same deal?
Thanks a bunch guys!
No and No.
keep the solid axle, those are rare.
an 85 w/ a solid rear? u must not be stateside, as the only year to have a solid rear is the 1984. like mine
Nah, not really... I have 2 85\'s with a solid axle... One is a March 84 build code the other is a July 84 and both are deemed 85.
