Well, I had a phone call this morning from my sister-in-law, who I get my lease car through, saying that I was caught speeding a week ago. 35mph in a 30 limit. ( west mercia police pension fund must need topping up !) There are no static cameras along the strech of road, so I guess it must have been a van. Its rather ironic really, as I am going to change jobs at the end of the year, and I will be working for a company that make speed cameras ( I know, I know !! I must be the devil, I know, but it pays more pennies than where I am at the mo )
So, anyway, I'll get to the point of why I wrote this. Does anyone know how to get out of paying this. Its not that I mind paying the fine, its just about the point on licence. I want a supra soon, and the insurance is £600
without the extra added for 3 points
I've heard, that some people say they cant remember who was driving at the time, but they reckon they have a pic which may identify me.
Also, I friend of mine at work ( has skyline ) got caught in his moms car speeding. She got the letter ( like my sister-in-law did, and when she sent it off saying it was him, he never replied to any of the letters that got sent to him. He said that cos none of them was sent recorded delivery, he never recieved them. they contaced him three times about this, one letter said that it was an offence not to reply to the letters. he never replied, cos he never got them icon_smile.gif he has heard nothing from them now in 6 months - Has anyone else tried this ?
Last of all, I know that all static cameras need a secondary speed measurement ( lines on road ), but camera vans dont have that ability, does anyone know of anyone getting out of paying by saying that they wanted to see some proof that the camera was reading the correct speed ( calibration certificate ? ) I mean, the camera would only have to be 2mph out, and that would get me off the hook.

SPEEDING
Wow man that sucks. but i feel your pain. I have 3 points on my record in the last 3 years. 2 for speeding and 1 for the roll over accident i was just in.
My advice would be one of these:
A) Fight it. You can either go when your court date is and say that you never saw proof that you were going that fast or you can get as many extentions as you can and then show up preparred to fight. 80% of the time the cop will not show up if you get a bunch of extentions cuz they forget.
B) accept it, pay it and go to traffic school. traffic school erases it from your record.
I used A and got exentions for 4 months then went to fight it. The cop never showed. So they dismissed it. That was a ticket for driving 89mph in a 35 and he added a reckless driving. I was road racing an acura. i dont call that reckless! haha.
anyway however you handle it GOOD LUCK. ive been there. i think we ALL have at one point. lol

You guys get dimarits for speeding tickets? we get them for speeding tickets just not photo/laser radar cause they cant prove you were driving. only if you're pulled over.

i already have 2 points icon_mad.gif 78 in a 55, guess i lucked out somewhat because about 10 miles before that i was doing about 105 icon_twisted.gif (and that was in my CA20E S12 icon_eek.gif ) i also only ended up paying $50 for it so it wasnt too bad
but isnt it like if you dont get another ticket within 3 years or something the points drop off your license?

I think it is three in NC, Henrik. It varies by state. I have two points on my NC license, one for a speeding ticket on I-40 in Statesville in the S12, and one for backing into a Mustang with my Dakota Sport in a McDonald's parking lot when I had my sister-in-law's desk in the back of the truck.

Well here in Hawaii we had those muthafkn vans for a few months. And everyone that was caught by em, had to pay for em, no way around that. They would take a pic of u and your speed, and your lic plate. but they'd give u a leeway, like 5mph over.
But we were lucky to get rid of those fkn vans, saying they were unconstitutional hahaha...GOTTA LOVE AMERICA! hahaha
And as far as points on teh licence, that stuff was removed from our system long ago. it all just depends on the judge nowa-days to determine yer punishment. Cops ALWAYS (well if they dont forget, get sick, etc) to the trial if u want one, first time u go in, u say yer half, judge sys if u guilty or not due to proof, then if u wanna contest it, thats when the cops come in (usually in the afternoon), but if needed they reschedule yer date for trial. Oh and here accients are cleared after 5yrs and any moving violation is removed after 3yrs.
IF it wasnt like this I"d prolly have a total of apprx 10speeding tickets and 6 accidents on my permanant driving record! hahahaha...but now everything is cleared, and I only have 1 speeding and 2accidents left to clear!

spoken to a few cops and heres what to do......
if you ignore any letters addresed to you from the police they will issue a warrant
ask for a copy of the calibration certificate ( a new one has to be done at the change of each shift)
also the officer who is using the radar gun MUST have a letter of authorisation from his chief constable signed and dated for that shift
any discrepancies and the charge gets thrown out icon_biggrin.gif
any radar gun must be within a certain (500 yards??) distance of a speed trap sign (you know the ones with the picture on)
good luck fighting this sly tax raising scam icon_smile.gif

in alberta... they might be. I bought mine here, so i think so. It's useless though, weird things will set them off, and usually it didnt give me enough warning, so i'd end up decelerating in time, but only just.

anybody tried the fuzzing license plate cover route?
Yeah, I get a lot of false signals on my RD, it's like 8 years old and a Uniden (Birthday gift when I was like 1icon_cool.gif. But over time I learned to interpret its signals and it has saved me more times than I can count. Around town, where you're familiar with the surroundings, you inherently get to know where you get false signals. I don't even hear those anymore. It's when I get a signal that isn't in one of those spots, or is in a different band. The warning time can very from barely a second to half a minute depending on the conditions, surroundings, type of radar, etc.
I don't depend on or trust the RD to keep me out of trouble, it's just an additional tool. I find it's most effective in town, where there are more cars around you and the police don't use as much instant-on radar, and if they do you get reflections off cars in front of you before you get pasted yourself. On the interstates, it's more likely the RD won't be enough, the state police use more instant-on, set up traps in places of their choosing, and you are more likely to be relatively alone on the road.
Fortunately, it is in these same interstate driving situations where another piece of hardware I installed on my S12 becomes effective, the tried-and-true CB radio.
While it stays almost completely silent around town, once you hit the Interstate the CB comes to life with the voices of truck drivers chatting, and warning each other (and me) of the exact location and position of every patrol car, often for a hundred miles in either direction. The CB is also very valuable for getting information on traffic and weather situations.

I just glanced through the replies and didn't see anyone mention hiring a lawyer.
I got a speeding ticket (53 in a 35) and it was going to almost double my insurance. I saw an ad in back of a local paper for a lawyer who handles speeding tickets. The copper had me dead to rights, so I called to check it out.
It was a $75 ticket and she charged $225 to handle it. It was well worth it because my insurance had just gone down for a Good Driver Discount (ha!).
All I had to do was send her the ticket and the $$ and she went to the courthouse and did her magic. 2 weeks later, I got a letter saying it was all over and no points were being assessed and my insurance would not be affected.
Oddly enough, my insurance company (State Farm) 'unofficially' recommended this course of action, too.
A couple of things: if I'd been going more than 30 (I think) over the limit, or had more than 2 (I think) speeding tickets that year, there was nothing she could have done. So talk to them before sending any $$.
Anyway, if you don't want to fight and just want to make sure it doesn't go on your record, this is the way to go.
However, for only 5 mph, you might want to just buy the judge a pint after work . . . . .

Here in OZ if you speed past a fixed camera or mobile camera or red light camera, you get the fine in the mail and you have to nominate the driver and you then have 42 days to pay.
I've heard of a guy who gives a name of someone in Bulgaria with a Bulgarian address. Imagine the police force trying to send the fine or try to get confirmation from the Bulgarian authorities.
No loss of points, no fine to pay.
Everyone here is screaming that all these sneaky cameras are just for revenue raising. This guy loves cameras. He reckons there should be more cameras and less police with speed guns.
