rear brake upgrade

I have been looking into the rear brakes, today i bought some alloy 2 pot calipers off a late model 300zx turbo.

The calipers bolt straight on to the STD mounts.

The discs designed to work with these calipers are 290mm X 20mm vented.

On the Z31 84- 9/85 they use a 290mm solid discs with the same offset.

What you need is the disc with less offset, so i have used the flange of the old disc and machined it to fit on the hub before the new 290mm solid disc, this lets the disc sit in the middle of the caliper. The other problem is the calipers take a wider disc, so i have used the old pad and removed the matrial so i have just a backing plate and use them as well as the pads and this gives me the right thickness.

The only other thing is my wheels studs are longer, so the 7mm of the old disc flange might not leave the std studds enough lenght.

So now i have the 300ZX 4 pots on the front and 2 pots on the rear.

Some pics would be nice. I have toyota 86 4x4 pick up four pistoned brakes in the front and 83 280zx rear brakes on mine. I'd like to upgrade mine if this works. Also is urs IRS or solid rear? Did u have to change the brake lines?

The calipers are off the last model shape, so 90's area, it is the one with the multi link rear end and 4 wheel steering.

I have braided brake lines and the pipe is in the same spot as the std rears.

The std rears which have the hand brake cable are also the same on the 300zx up to 89? as the S12.

That is one other thing too, there is no hand brake, forgot that as i have a hydraulic handbrake.

Not sure on the steering.

But if you guys still need a hand brake which you would for a road car then and easy way is to use the discs of the Z31 84- 9/85 they use a 290mm solid discs with the same offset and also they caliper which looks the same as the S12 but with a different offset for the larger rottor, still uses the same pads and handbrake cable hooks straght on.

This would give you better braking and keep it all looking the same bar the discs are 30odd mm larger, they will fit inside 15's wheels fine too.

That model uses the same stud patten too, all the rear end is the same arms and sub frame.
