anyone have any good suggestions for what to replace the orange gasket that's on the compressor outlet tube with?
Crappy Orange Gasket
Yeah...........chuck the orange gasket piece of shizit and buy a piece of regular 2 1/4 inch dia. silcone hose.
What I did on my O.E. pipe before I made a custom one was where those little tabs on the end of the pipe where the orange gasket fits............unfold the tabs so there sticking straight out, and put a straight piece of silcone hose over it and clamp it down on the pipe. Clamp the other end to the turbo. Presto......works great. I did this for about 5 years before I made my own pipe. Got tired of paying $30 for that orange piece...........I think I went through about 10 of them, because they always got torn, plus they always popped off under boost..
With the regular piece of silcone hose..........I never had to replace it. Think I paid about $5 for that piece of hose.

The previous owner of my car installed a silicone hose as Keith described here above. But it used to come out at high boost and I had to stop the car and re-installed it again. Finally I installed the stock one from Nissan and my problem solved. I even have now better response at high boost as there is now preasure leak.

Well, I guess it must be how it's installed.........I know the o.e. one for me, and many others would always tear or pop off...never much luck with them.
As soon as I put the regular piece of straight hose on......never had another problem.....I had the hose extend up right up under that bracket thats welded on the pipe, and clamped it down there.
If it is still popping up with this setup try using a t-clamp at the turbine, and pipe side. It will never slip off using these.
I use t-clamps on my custom pipe, and they don't budge at all.
Little more expensive than regular hose clamps....I think I paid $6 each, but they work, and no more headaches.

I hate those orange gaskets, I have been through 4 or 5 of them...the darned things keep splitting and slipping off where it should be icon_mad.gif I still use the orange gasket at the moment, and junked the stock tightening clamp and fitted a large hose clamp, and so far have had no more problems with the gasket or the pipe popping off, but as soon as I get my FMIC ready, then am going to use silicone sleeves/bends to hook up the turbo, FMIC and TB icon_biggrin.gif

i actually haven't had a problem with mine (yet. knock on wood). i was just interested in what other people are doing for when i DO have a problem. i've check out silcone hose but it's pricy stuff. plus i haven't been able to find any place that sells it prebent. you need a pretty good bend coming out of that compressor.
Mine disintegrated the first time I touched it. I tried sort of holding piece a and piece B together while a friend put the pipe on. That didn't work. I called Nissan, confused the parts guy. Went to Canadian Tire, bought a rubber plumbing elbow, put a wormgear clamp on it. That lasted until the engine got hot. The I surfed through my parts bin, and ended up using the rubber line that was still connected to my intercooler when I bought it. Frigging thing was the perfect bend. Worm gear clamp and ta-daa.

Current rebuild in process. Massive Rebuild.

I can take a pic when I find my digital camera again, lol is all very well remodelling my house, but can't find a damn thing at the moment.....At any rate, the orange rubber gasket sits in the end of the stock turbo pipe, at the turbo end, but seeing as you run an intercooler, you probably eliminated it long ago....It should have been there on your CA18ET engine when that was stock though, or you would have been losing turbo pressure and running real rich and lumpy.

well, my intake has been popping off continuously under the increased boost i've been running. i finally just replaced it with a piece of silicone hose today. after running the car (not hard mind you) there's a distinct burning plastic/rubber smell coming from the hose. i'm wondering if the hose is starting to melt/char. and what's going to happen when i do run the car hard?? hopefuly it's just the hose 'breaking in'.
maybe i should put some header wrap on the manifold and turbo? i'm worried about cracking the manifold tho.
i'm glad my replacement turbo doesn't have this cheesy hose clamp arrangement.
make sure your new silcone hose is not touching the corner of the manifold. I did this when I set up my new piping, and my silcone was touching that corner, and I smelled burning rubber........I looked and it was resting on that corner of the manifold right next to the inlet, and burned a hole right through it. I bought a new hose, and just rotated it a bit, and not have had any problems since.
If your worried about the pipe coming off use T-bolt clamps, and that should hold fine. I use them, and nothing has ever popped off since

thanks keith, i'll look out for that. the smell has become a little better, presumably whatever was touching has mostly charred away icon_biggrin.gif i'll take the hose off and check again today.
