I was wondering since the z32 intake has long runners it would benifit our engine but i dont know if the ports will match. I some one has pics or info to shed light on this topic please let me know.

Check my CarDomain page for pics. page 4

And the Z32 intake won't fit under the S12 hood. That was the reason that Nissan made an intake plenum specifically for the SE V6, it's very short height-wise so that the hood will clear.

So you'll be back from Iraq next February, huh oshag? Now you've got me to thinking........we seem to have gotten several new members, especially SE V6 owners, in the Southeast US over the past few months, between you, Paul, Hans is picking up his SE this weekend, myself...............I think maybe we ought to get together some weekend after you get back, sometime this spring maybe..........(gears begin turning....)

Just as an FYI we are supposed to have one of the best VG30E manifolds to begin w/ so upgrading prob wouldn't get us too far. I am STILL (lazzy friend) trying to get a spare one of mine ported and polished. THat'll prob be the next best step. THe only other manifold option we could consider is a custom unit, posibly using the late model maxima manifold as a base (the dual TB unit) or something mimicking the pathfinder unit.

yeah i was thinking about a duel TB unit but like on opposite sides of the mani either that or the front the side mounts like that i see depriving cly#1 and 5 from as much air as they could be getting

cls12vg30: That would be great, then we can finally get the ball rolling down here!

And thats what I mean about the z32 intake very long runners with twin throttle bodies, i know the intake ports on it are oval are ours round? then modify or custom build the lower plenum.....possible? maybe with my imagination the skys the limit icon_biggrin.gif (plus budget icon_sad.gif ).

hood clearence is not an issue can get a custom hood with scoop, since the de motor is a heffer why not adapt parts or go off their design there would be loads more of options as long as the custom work isnt past the point of no return.

The lower plenum also supplies coolant to the heads and heater core. Its not really something you'd want to fabricate. But even if you could get it addapted to the engine it is still a VERY LARGE manifold. You'd probably have to cut the hood up quiet a bit to get it too fit (=look funny). But even if you got that far both TB's would still have to breath through 1 MAF (unless you used a stand alone setup).

If you want longer runners your only choice is the pathfinder upper collector. But it a bit tall so this would require some hood mod'ing.

If you want larger port you'll be looking at the later model maxima intake (twin TB). On this guy the whole thing was different. It used a larger oval port. the only problem is that like the Z31 manifolds its too long and runs straight into the fire wall. These manifolds came in 3 pieces insted of 2. The lower plenum was very similar except for the larger ports and a different arrangement of their location. The collector was 2 pieces though. The base was pretty much just a slab that acted as a set of air horn for the ports and the top was a shell that rested on top of the slab. It was the piece that had the pipes on it that swooped around to meet for the TB unit. If you have ever seen one of these you'll know what I mean. I have a great pic but no way to post it. Any way, the second piece (the slab) could be machined downa bit and an upper could be custom made to fit on top but this is all a lot of work.

Like I said your probably going to be better off getting some one to do a port and polish on your stock manifold and making a really good intake.

ok...noted. Since its not adapting issues, its clearance. What maks our intake good? its very restrictive for 2 of the 6 cylinders....what if one was to make a custom intake using longer more individual runners? whats makes dual tb better than one, other than splitting the job in half for the airflow? if a custom manifold could be made would single or dual tb be better,hp wise or tq? to make a custom unit utilze factory or upgraded z32 tb's with modified linkage. basiclly just ranting......but what if.....

I mean we need more options since turbo'ing is hard enough, in which increasing exhaust flow you need to increase intake flow.

Im not saying that it cant be done but why not try, i have nothing better to do with my time....well i can think of a few thing but she understands icon_biggrin.gif

If you could fab some ultra slick high flow indevitdual throttle body setup one TB for each cyl then that would be the way to go if you were going to fab a mani since why stop halfway when you can go all the way you would need to have a stand alone ECU for this to work though

Don't get me wrong on the Z32 manifold its not just clearance. Thats just the 1st BIG prblem. It would be next to impossible to adapt it to our engines even if we had the room. I guess my thing w/ it is that your going to spend a LOT of $$$ on a one off custom manifold and you may only get 5HP for it (if that). The only way I could see it being worth while is if you are a fabrication artist w/ time to kill.

would i be able to use a maxima intake manifold on a vg30et(300zx). say i were to flip it around to face the front of the engine.

would this be that simple or would it require modification? what i mean by "flip it around" is, if you have seen a maxima intake manifold, you would have noticed that the TB area is facing towards the rear of the engine.

unlike the a pathfinder which comes right out the front(which is what i want to do.

I didn't want to read all the posts so I don't know if anyone mentioned this one, but the pathfinder manifolds have been used on the 300zx successfully making quite a bit more torque.

yep, pathfinder intake, that seems to be the way to go. i actually just picked one up for like $30...only to find out that now i'll have to modify my hood. pathfinder intake is like 3 in higher. oh well, the price you pay for performance.
