Just wondering if any of the Aussie boys here know if the VL used any of the same running gear as the R31 other than just the motor. I was just flicking through the Times Autoguide and spotted a VL Calais with LSD and it occured to me that maybe it could be a longnose R200. Is this a possibility or did they use a crappy Holden drivetrain?

It's borg warner i think, probably related to VK parts rather than anything nissan.

bit like a "slush box" for an automatic hehe

I think he said that because the Nissan verison of the T5 is considered by many to be a POS. It's always a hot topic on the Z car list. It's known to go "bang" often. Supposedly it's different from the GM/Ford and World Class versions.

I have no recollection as to the specifics, and some claim it's good to 500hp, others say 3, others say none if you drive it like you stole it too often. Someone should probably do some research with Z31 and 280ZXT owners. Oh wait that someone is me, innit? Heh. I'll re-ask the list and see what I get.

FS5R30A? From what I've read, that's the tranny to have. I don't have any experience with it's actual feel though.

all commonwhores up to the early '90s were live axle. as were all Aus-spec R31s. it turns out that the VL diffs were virtually identical to the OZ-R31 diffs.

Bang Worner: i love it!! i have to use it at work tomorrow!!

I use the term "slush box" all the time and many gearheads cock their head and give me a puzzled look. Then I usually ahve to say automatic and they go "OOhhhh".

Morons.

Hmm the term slush box is pretty well known, maybe they are badly informed 'gear heads' hehe
