Most exhaust have the muffler straight flow i.e. pipe from engine connects to muffler and tail pipe exits through other side. Well on my S12 the pipe from the engine in and right next to it the tail pipe swings out and wraps around the muffler???? I dont know what NISSAN was thinking but see for yourself. Just wanted to know if anyone else has seen this ive seen other Notchbacks and they come out regular.

i say put a custom 2.5inch exhaust and flowmaster muffler on there and u wont have to worry about it. that would sound cool to, i cant wait till i get mine done.

ahahahha you've obviously never seen my xanga...

that's normal for an s12.

it reduces noise having it that long.

same with the intake piping.

just replace it with a 2.25" straight setup with whatever muffler. oval if you dont want farty. canister if youw ant farty.

2.25" if it's a ca20e. it'll be softer than a 2.5" but you'll retain some back pressure and low end torque. I have this setup and am happy with it.

I have 2.25" piping with a fart can, sounds pretty good it gives a nice and deep tone. 8)

Do you have a sound file on that? I remember listening to Indy, Tim's exhaust. It sounded awesome.

My exhaust does that too EightySix200SX. It goes into the muffler and out the same end and curves out towards the back end of the car.

I chopped the box off, and welded the exit pipe straight on.

No muffler, just pipe. -> Guess its a ghetto mod.

Myth s12 if your asking me if I have a sound clip, no I dont have one I can try to get one if you want me too.

do it so u can influence me to do a custom exhaust. how much horsepower will it add? No cat, 2.5 inch piping, vortex muffler. 20 horsepower?

EightySix200SXdate not saved · #9

im gonna need an assload of USB cable to put the mike behing my S12 that or back it up on my front lawn and rev the engine! lol ill try too i dont think my dad would be happy if i peel out all over his grass lol!! would be kinda funny tho! I might actually keep this setup because my dad said he would give me the rest of the cash for another S12. Because with the 86 what he wants me to do is restore it (there isnt much work needed just weatherstripping new chrome moulding and a new dash). Sucks that it is my car and i cant add any AFTMRKT parts on it.
There are alot of S12 sitting around my neighborhood. One brown coupe good condition! Red Fastback good condition. Blue fastback really shitty condition. EVEN A S110 200SX!!!! fairly decent condition!!! so im gonna talk to the guy with the brown one see if he wants to sell!

DASH IS CRACKED needs re-wiring.

EDIT: There is one by my school that drives by its all black coupe with Black mesh rims asking for $500 i think thats good! what do you think?

that's a joke right?

20hp??

hahaha even with no cat that's gonna bring you up to MAYBE 8hp man.

you'll never get 20hp with just an exhaust.

all custom means is that the piping is made onto the car instead of on a jig, that's it. nothing special or different. that matters is the way they bend the piping.

200RRdate not saved · #11

so i cant even get ten with the bigger piping and high flow muffler?

Indecisivedate not saved · #12

only if you're lucky...

intake, header, exhaust...that combo probably won't even get you 20hp

for real power gains, you gotta spend $$

200RRdate not saved · #13

i dont see how spending $315 on a coffe can muffler can make more horsepower than a straight flow design $70-$100 muffler. or paying $100's for bigger piping just because HKS touched them with there finger.

so why cant custom made headers, bigger piping and a cat back set up, and no cat make as much horse power as a $815 set up?

oldschoolsilviadate not saved · #14

Its all does the same thing but when you pay $815 on name brand stuff your just paying for the name "HKS". I spent $80 on a cat-back exhaust and like $30 for the muffler. All you have to do is buy the nock-off parts and claim them as a name brand, I could lie wright now and say I have an Apexi muffler you would never know. :)

so why cant custom made headers, bigger piping and a cat back set up, and no cat make as much horse power as a $815 set up?Firstly, it is pretty damn hard to get a cat back system without a cat, and second a lot depends on how it is fabricated. we are not saying that only a professional setup works best, but if you don't have a f****** clue the likelyhood of getting it right is a whole lot less than a shop.

Poer is determined by sevral factors, but the general rule of thumb is that the part with the most resistance will cause the most power loss.

Also making a no restriction exhaust will hurt your performance if the rest of the car isn't setup for a given way. The engine needs a certain amount of backpressure in order to function properly, without it you WILL go slower.

Lastly no two engines are the same, what works for one person most likely will not work the same for another.

But just to clarify on what I believe Indy was saying, power costs money, and without the right connections, you are going to pay big bucks for big power...
It is not usually the materials that are costly, it is the engineering that went into them

Indecisivedate not saved · #16

hahaha, I never said you have to pay lotsa $$ on I/H/E for big power..

NO I/H/E combo is gonna gain you 20hp for anything short of a racing team's budget.

I was talking about port and polish(you can actually do this yourself), adding displacement, forced induction, cams, 3 angle valve job, etc...

Name Brand, Custom, No Name, it's all the same stuff.

Wow I actually interpreted a BC'er somewhat correctly, I should get a prize...lol

Uglyoldnissandate not saved · #18

We talking about turbo or not? I must have got 20hp out of my cold air, pod filter, 2 1/2 inch straightpipe, removed cat and no muffler. At least it feels like 20hp. If you look at the restrictive exhaust and intake on the ca18et you would think you could gain a lot from opening up both ends. Or maybe I'm huffing gas. (its been known to happen)

Indecisivedate not saved · #19

sorry, I'd need to see a dyno sheet to believe a 20hp gain with just replacing to a straight through.

200RRdate not saved · #20

this honda owner, told me if you put on a Sparco Viynel, you gain like 25 horsepower. But a Mazda owner told me its only 23.8 HP gain. :D

Could it be that an Rx-7 has dual exhaust split piping? or maybe your talking about a different Mazda car...
