which would win in the 1/4 mile a ca18et or a ca20e both auto or manual

is doing a turbo on a ca20e realy worth it if your going to keep the stock T2 turbo?

I realy just want to turbo for the bov sound is it possible to get that sound buy just hooking up a turbo and intercooler with out tearing apart my engine with 67,0000 miles and with out messing with any electrical stuff?

is a ca20e with a automatic in a nochback worth the modifications like manual trany swaps air intakes cat backs etc. btw its a 87

can a turbo be done with out lifting to engine out of the car?

TurboNotchMay 1, 2005, 1:55 am · #2

if your after just the sound, i\'ve seen speaker kits that make the sound, but thats gay ricer crap.

drift_addictMay 1, 2005, 9:43 am · #3

Stock car for stock car the CA18ET would most likely win obviously depending who is driving it (ie. if you were driving the CA18 and I was driving the CA20 I would beat you most likely). The second part of what you said I am not really sure what the **** you are looking for here. CA20\'s dont come with any stock turbo they are naturally aspirated engines. Reading the third part of your questions makes me want to hit myself in the nuts, you are the most RICER person I have ever seen on here. If you are that worried about it when you want the sound of the BOV just stick your head out the window and say \"PSSSHHHHH\" as loud as you can. Any car is worth modding if you want to, there is no scale to determine whether it is worth while or not, but if your car has 670000 miles on it I would steer clear. And no you have to take the complete engine out of the car to even get the turbo project going, the rear tires also have to come off as make sure that your flux capacitor is turned to \"IMMAEFFINTARD\". Good luck.

Wow dude, you\'re really gonna get tore apart for this one.  But I\'ll take the high road and try to give you a little schooling...

which would win in the 1/4 mile a ca18et or a ca20e both auto or manual

CA18ET by all means, hands down.

is doing a turbo on a ca20e realy worth it if your going to keep the stock T2 turbo?

Well, CA20\'s are fairly unreliable when turbo\'d.  They weren\'t designed to be turbo\'d, and have problems blowing head gaskets.  I would rather swap in a CA18ET, unless you really plan on building up the CA20.

I realy just want to turbo for the bov sound is it possible to get that sound buy just hooking up a turbo and intercooler with out tearing apart my engine with 67,0000 miles and with out messing with any electrical stuff?

That\'s just pure ricer talk there.  Do you want your car to be fast, or sound fast???  If you want it to sound fast, my recommendation is to sell your 200 and buy a Honda.  They make lots of gay ricer stuff for Hondas.

is a ca20e with a automatic in a nochback worth the modifications like manual trany swaps air intakes cat backs etc. btw its a 87

Oh yeah, if you\'ve got an auto, the only time you\'ll hear the BOV is when you let off the gas after a hard boosting run.  Many factory auto turbo cars (and even some manual cars) don\'t even have BOV\'s.  Any car is worth modifying if you want it to go faster, but that\'s a question you need to ask yourself.

can a turbo be done with out lifting to engine out of the car?

Yes, but it\'s not for someone with limited mechanical knowledge.  Please go read up, research, and learn.  There\'s a wealth of knowledge out there between magazines, books, and the internet.  If you\'re serious about wanting a turbo setup, I would recommend that you read \"Maximum Boost\" by Corky Bell.  But, chances are unless you learn some of the fundamentals about engines and how they work first, you\'ll have a hard time understanding it.

Now, I know that everyone has to start somewhere, that\'s why I\'m trying to be nice about this.  But please, search around the forums and on the net before asking questions like this.  I think most of these questions have been answered before in this very forum.

So time to read up, and please don\'t turn to the ricey side...

Hey hey now lets not get to crazy I thought everyone was entitled to their own opinion if you want to turbo your CA20e then do it dont let anybody else tell you that you should or shouldnt do it thats whats this is all about.

to your ques. lawson4323, don\'t even bother with the ca20e, get rid of the whole engine and put in a ca18et or better yet a ca18DET which is what i\'m doing. put a bov on it with a FMIC and your set!

200SX-TMay 1, 2005, 4:56 pm · #9

Let me begin by saying you should lay off of the caffeine. It may have not been appropriate for some of the other members to post shit talking text, but was it really that neccessary for you to do it also? Anyways, I would just say to sell the whole car and find a different one that is already turbocharged. By the way, where did you find the money to build/buy a fully race prepared BMW 328ci, trustfund baby.    I\'d put my brother\'s CRX Si up against it. (No honda is gay signs please).

Well good for you.  But airplanes are quite a bit different than cars.  If you ask stupid questions, people are gonna assume that you don\'t have much mechanical know-how.  I mean, someone who doesn\'t even know how to use the \"quote\" button, probably shouldn\'t be trying to turbo their car.

ummm lets see, well if this were the case were someone told me \\\"yeah the ca20e is worth the time and modification\\\" ummmm lets think since the ca20e is worth the time and effort guess it would be a good idea to swap in a manual,

Ummmmmm, I don\'t even ummm get what you\'re tyring to ummmm say here...

I was just telling you that if you want the BOV sound, you won\'t get it with an automatic unless you let off the gas after a hard run.

Seriously dude, I know some people are harsher than they should be, I thought I was pretty nice about it.  I have no patience for people who ask questions that could have easily been found by searching, and then come and get an attitude and tell everyone how smart they really are.

I know this is an older post, but I'm a new member and I hope you'll respond anyway. Does the CA20E not have forged pistons? I think the CA20 can use the same head gasket as the CA18ET. If the pistons are forged and the ecu was done right, the next host of problems would be the rods, crank, and block. The bigger stroke would make for faster piston speeds but would add more torque, The CA20 block is taller but I don't know if it's any weaker? The Bore/Stroke isn't square but with limited cam selection how fast can you spin any 2valveCA? The turbo will build power at lower rpm and if detonation is curbed is the CA20 still limited to low boost? How high of boost can a cast piston run? I once heard 7PSI. Is this true? Is the CA20 piston fordged? What can it handle? Those of you who say 5psi or 40hp, Why? I'd like to try the longer storke under the CA18et head. Has anyone tried? If I do what should I expect?

somebody posted up pics of the ca20e rods, ca18et rods, and ca18det rods once...obviously the det rods were the beefiest, and then the et rods in second...but the 20e rods looked like they would snap if you sneezed on them.

your best bet would be to look up "YellowPreludeR" and all of his posts concerning the Ca20ET. He did it. made it work. it may take you quite a bit of time, and im sure there will be gaps in the info, as we've had a few crashes since then..but im sure theres still good info to be found!

and since when have the ca20e's come turbo     I must have a CA20ET    must be the limited editson s12 nissan only made 5 of before they stoped and made full N/A engines for the ca20e!   they must have had like Mad jdm torque yo, thats why they stoped making them. xD J/K

but really go buy your self a FF like a civic or an integra or a 50 hp car that weighs 3,000lb you'll be a happy man.

LOL well you can't blame the kid, my mom thought my car was a 8 cylinder till I showed her it was a four.  2 plugs per cylinder HA!

K, single cam turbos suck the nuts.
Boost a piston can run depends on the piston.
In this particular engine, the rods and crank are also too weak.
So in the end you're getting a complete forged rebuild and doing a lot of machining for what, an extra 200cc?

Down here theres a member floating around with a rebuilt (stock equipment all through)
CA20 block with a twin cam head.
Dyno'd at 170KW's.
He's happy with the results, but it cost him more than a CA18DET, and ca's also make that kind of power, so its kinda like fighting an uphill battle...
