My stock FJ20E: 307rwhp

As I said before I was investigating the strength of the stock FJ20E. I simply turbocharged one and using 19 psi I made today 307rwhp. The engine is a totally stock FJ20E apart from turbo cam gears (which add only 15.4rwhp) and I am not sure whether it runs 9.1:1 or 9.5:1, chances are the former. Please go to FJ20.com to see my dyno run.

FJ20E's like FJ20ET's are bulletproof providing you tune them right.

wow. I wonder how long it can hold that power for?

This engine has been turbocharged for over a year now. First it was only running 6 psi with standard turbo, then 13psi. Only recently I have moved onto the big turbo. So it has been holding boost for a while. Ill let you know how long it lasts. But I treat my cars well so I dont so it not lasting like any other engine of similar calibre.

Cheers

You wouldn't be the sebastian that had a 1600 at the Gold Coast you were transplanting 2 or 3 years ago, it had 5 stud s14 rear end etc.?

A GT30R on a properly tuned internally standard FJ20ET will make good power from 3800rpm to 7200rpm on 18psi.

what spec GT30R?

I am familiar with this one

GT30
SB8006A
700177-0014
Comp A/R: 0.70
Comp Wheel Trim: 64
Comp Model: GT40
Comp Wheel Diam: 2.41/3.22
Rated HP: 550
Comp Flow: 65 lbs
Turbine A/R: 0.82
Turbine Wheel Trim: 84
Turbine Wheel Diam: 2.16/2.36

And on a built SR20 (9.0:1 pistons, HKS 272 Cams, Valve springs, Full race manifold, etc) ... its boring below 5000 rpm ... 375 rwhp on 18psi

So you are obviously talking about a different GT30R 0.82 rear ... perhaps the smaller T04s comp model?

Comp Wheel Trim: 56
Comp Model: TO4S

The turbo you are talking about is commonly known as a GT30/40.
I would expect to see 400+whp out of a properly set up FJ20ET with a GT30/40 on 18psi

hmm, Ive got a t3/t4 (std core/bearings) and a reasonably well set up FJ20ET (550's, LINK, EXT W/G, BIG I/C, FORGIE's ),

I got 300rwhp on 15psi (before my external seized).

now, allowing for variations in wheel trims etc between turbos, would the 'GT' roller bearing versions be good for that much more HP from an extra 3psi?

cheers

With out knowing what turbo is already on your car it is very hard to answer this question.
I can say the Garrett GT turbos are superior to the older T04B, T04E and T series turbos.

I will take a guess and say the GT30/40 is most likely bigger than your T3/4 .

Here is a dyno read out of an internally standard FJ20ET fitted with a Turbonetics T04E.
Turbo specs are
Compressor T04E 50 Trim.
Turbine 0 trim
Exhaust housing on-centre .58.

This same car made 409whp on 23.5psi with race fuel.
