hi guys and gals (maybe?) just wanted to say hi and nice forum you guys have going on here. just thought id give a little info about myself :p
my name is Adam, im 21 and happily engaged. i currently own a 2000 saturn sc2 that is up for sale, merely cus i dont want payments anymore. ive stumbled across a 86 s12 a week back and immediately started doing some searching for parts and swaps and alas ive found this place :p . ive been browsing and searching and reading the stickies and faqs for the past couple days and decided ya i want the s12. so -$600 later i have a running and in great condition s12 w/ ca20e.....hopefully that will change here shortly. :p
im, i guess you could say average in the automotive field, but my expertise is car stereo (6+year installer/garage manager,) and i love suspension work. ive already started drawing up some plans as to what i could do to make the dash a little nicer you could say, the pics will explain for themselves when the time comes.
just wanted to say hi and i look forward to the s12 experience, and from what i could tell a great community.
Adam

Welcome to the forums!! And another CA20 member too!! 8) I am glad that you came accross this site, and that you decided to pick up (your now) S12...I am excited to see your plans for the car...and the finished product...8)
Welcome to the club, Adam. I too rid myself of a newer vehicle that I was still making payments on in order to buy my S12 with cash. A great transaction!
I take it then you plan on swapping the engine? What options are you looking at?
Welcome to the club Adam check out my car some time have fun .
ive got some plans brewing, as of right now im looking more into fiberglassing the dash to hold the gauges i have and most importantly the wb02. ive got around $4300 i can toy with, but intend to not dispose of it all at one time. least of my concerns is the motor right now, but that may change soon. id really like to address the suspension and brakes before i get into the motor, i want the rest of the car to perform to my likings before i want some real power. has this forum recently undergone a server change?? i ask cus there are only 12 pages of suspension and every question is the same
what kind of options are out there for motors?? i see lots of people with the ca18et and the vg30 and some are using the (fj i think??) how many run the sr20det? ive got a friend who has one in his altima and it does not run because his shop never finished the motor mounts axles and wiring, and i can snag it and the tranny fairly cheap. but, i digress, im not gonna sit here and bore you guys :p im getting the actual car on monday so ill try and snag a couple pics of it in my shops garage before i leave there.
thanks for the nice greetings

thanks for the nice greetingsThere are a few guys who have swapped the SR into the S12, a couple being Neberchernezer (Iwill bet money I spelt that wrong) and FLYPSI

The uh, Altima Motor and tranny won't work in our cars, due to the fact the Altima is front wheel drive and ours are rear wheel Drive. The Ca18et motor came in the 84 through 86 cars in the US (Canada and probably the rest of the world till 88. The Vg30 Motor was optional in 87 and 88 in the US. Depending on where you live and and your smog regulations may determine which motor you can use, unless its for the track only. The SR20det and the ca18det where not offered here in the states. The only way to get those are to import them. And if you have to smog your car, that can be a hassle. You could probably legally run a sr20de motor as they where in cars offered here, but it wasn't offered in a rear wheel drive application here in the states. Another option for us is to get a KA24E or KA24de from an s13 or 14 or 15. Could probably get one off somebody for cheap who is sticking an SR in there car. I know somebody who has had a turbotronics kits installed on there KA Motor and was Dynoed at some where between 220 and 250 HP.

You guys got the S15...I never knew that!!! Damn I want one!!!
Eh... The S15 never came out in U.S.
Well... I've never seen one with a KA24DE around my place.
btw, welcome to the forums Adam and good luck with your S12 :p
Hello!!
Sorry, got a little number crazy. Hey, what year where the runs for the models? I know S13 started in 89, when did the S14 come along. The guy I know, I believe his is an S14, its like a mid 90's car.

heheh i dont know if you understood or not. he has an sr20det in the altima. i dont want the old altima motor, just his sr20det. i was unsure of it working because of the fwd, but i thought get a different tranny and i would be good. oh i forgot to mention this is my first RWD car :p
i guess you could say i got lucky in where i live.....we dont have smog checks or anything so i can have all the fun i want and it still be streetable :p thanks for the great welcomes guys
If you ever want to do the SR20DET, or CA18DET i have had some experience with swaps in both (mostly the SR20DET) and FLY PSI although he didn't do his swap is pretty cluey and can help you out too. There are some other aussies with engine swaps underway to, Sheppo and Salps12 both with CA18DET cars.
Oh yeah and we got S15s here, they are teh cool although i like S14a's better....hehehe. I just like rubbing that in...sorry :P

so i take it i can take his sr20det out of the altima, get a different tranny and other tidbits and im good to go?? if so this would be AMAZING, because he doesnt know what his motor is worth :p

If the SR is out of a RWD car then yes it will work...just make sure it still has the RWD type oil pan...

First off, welcome to the club, I'm sure you'll learn a lot here.
Secondly, from what I've heard, swapping an SR from FWD to RWD is a real pain. Now, all this is hearsay, I've been trying to find some pics since I've got a FWD SR20DE sitting here in the shop for comparison. If it's a DET, you won't have to worry about the distributor since it should have coil packs. Still have to figure out the water passages and motor mounts though.
From what I've read, the blocks are cast differently where the motor mounts bolt to. Also, if you look at a FWD SR motor, it's got one water passage in the front of the motor, then a couple in the rear. These would of course all have to be rerouted to the front.
I don't think it's impossible, but I'm doing some research right now that might help you out...
But it also depends of whether the SR20DET came out of a RWD application to begin with, and they were going to put it in a FWD car...if that is the case, then it would be easy to put it in a RWD car...
Just wanted to welcome another Ohio member to the s-12 community! wOOt!
