After all these years I finally got a couple of gauges. I got some made by Stewart Warner. www.sw-performance.com I got a Vac/Boost gauge, and A/F gauge.
They're pretty sweet. Both are back lit, and with amber 194 wedge bulbs in them, they match the instrument cluster pretty good. The pointer on the boost gauge glows red, which is pretty nice.
I put them in the center where the clock use to be.....using gloss black 1/4" plexi glass as a frame. Also got some Auto Meter "angle rings" which angle the gauges toward the driver's seat for better veiwing. Haven't decided if I'll keep them here or go with the more trendy A-pilar pod set-up.
What do ya think?

Those look good keith. I guess great minds think alike....I'm about to do that same thing with gauges too, angle rings and all. I got some autometer gauges.

What size are the gauges you have there?

Keithdate not saved · #4

Hey thanks........they are the standard 2 1/16" size. The angle rings just barley fit from top to bottom within the dash cut out as the outside dia. is slightly larger in dia. than the gauges. Also with the piece of plexi cut just right I didn't have to fasten it to the dash....it just wedged in nice and snug.

I made a similar piece, shown here....

I took an interior piece from a wrecked 200sx with the same colour dash as mine and cut it out to the proper shape. The only problem I have now is I wanted to use 2 5/8 gauges which is what I have now, but there to big for where the clock went. I kicked my self in the arse when I found out...I think they will fit but it may be to much work. May have to take them back and get smaller ones.

Damn nice place to put the gauges!

Also luv the fact they glow orange 8-)

Keithdate not saved · #7

Man.....there's no way 2 5/8" gauges will fit in the clock cut-out, unless you modify the dash some. Like I said the outside dia. of the angle rings I got barley fit within the cut-out.

Having those guages on with those agle pieces really look trick...and the orange back lit really make it look sorta stock...it blends very well...NICE!! 8)

Hey Travis,

don't be sad with your gauges.
I think you have a three of them which is nice for the project.
Make a very proper 3 pieces of 2 5/8 inch size holes on the dash flat face
(thats where the exact right location in front of the passanger side)
put them on autometer angle rings facing them to you and you have been set.

that's exactly the same when my 3 autometer gauges (vac/boost-EGT-Fuel)
will arrive to me.

Keith set up is nice for the two set of gauges but I see no way that you can put yours on the clock location.

good luck with your installation project,

alp

Very nice set. I like that you went with the Stock orange look for the gauges, I thought of the same concept but I haven't installed them cause I don't know where to mount them. You choose a really nice place to set them at. Nicely Thought... Props man... Major Props. Nice Work. ;)

Keith, I have always been a proponent of making aftermarket additional gauging match the OEM cluster, so it looks "stock". That's why I hate pillar pods, they look WAY non stock. Yours came out excellent, even the angle and color of the backlighting. Commendable!

This is a new gauge company to me, looks similar to autometer really. But with nicer bezels.

Yeah........me too. I had never heard of them before either. According to their website they've been around since 1905.
The first place I saw them was on Nopi's website. I like the Auto Meter ones, but I have been looking for a while for something different.....and when I saw these it was like love at first site....well not really, but you know what I mean. Once I researched their website....I decided these were the ones I've been looking for for for such a long time. Prices are about the same if not better than some of the Auto Meter's.

i vote pillar. easier to keep your eyes on the road and the gauges. altho in reality after you get them in (and aren't doing tuning) you rarely look at them =) i've found a/f to be annoying while driving so you might want to wire that to a switch now instead of tearing stuff apart later.

edit: oh yeah. nice gauges! =)

You mean you are not tuning you S12 now?? Did you get everything figured out?? :dontknow:

Nice and clean looks great as does the rest of your car :)

Arrodate not saved · #16

I will take "annoying" bouncing lights from the A/F gauge over not knowing my fuel is balanced any day of the week.

Keithdate not saved · #17

There are companies that sell "modified" A/F gauges..........meaning they only work at WOT.
Most companies I found sell autometer A/F gauges already modified, or you can send them your gauge and they'll modify it for you for like $25
Here's a link talking about modified a/f gauges.

NIce very nice.

I like pillars too. You only have to move your eyes a little bit to see the gauges. The A/F gauge doesn't annoy me but I have an analog style

I ordered two 2 1/16" gauges so when they come in, I'm gonna try mounting them in a spot nobody has tried yet, and if it works it would be perfect for easy glance. We'll see, pics of success will come, or moans and whining of failure.

Keithdate not saved · #21

With the angle rings the gauges are actually very easy to read in the clock location......I can see both perfectly at WOT out of the corner of my eye without turning my head.

nice gauges...

My friend Bob works for them and helps design the gauges as well.

Ever see the Shift light Tach? its the pimpshit ;) :hitit:

That's a great set-up Keith.

Very well done :D

Yo....Arro, did you ever get your gauges mounted up in that top secret place you were wanting to try?
