I didn't want to do this in the tech forum, so I figured I'd do it here. I just registered today, so I thought I'd make the standard "hi" post.
I have a '98 Silver Moss S14 5spd, so I'm not an S12 owner (YET). I always knew the S12 existed but didn't really start finding out about the cars in detail until today, but they're super cool. I've been on S12-related websites for like the last 2 hours. I have no idea why these things aren't wildly popular, I guess it's just because they're sort of rare.
Any people on this board from the Washington DC area? I go to a bunch of regular car meets for various things (if I went to all of em, Sunday'd be my only free night, lol), so we should meet up so I can check out your S12 8-)
Hey
This thread was saved without dates. "Around Apr 2005" is estimated from neighbouring threads.
That silver moss is a sweet color. I had a friend with a silver moss S14. The main reason the S12 isn't wildly popular, is the fact that there is practically NO aftermarket support. You have to know what to look for when finding aftermarket parts, or make your own. Anyway, welcome to the world of the S12!
welcome to the board...I think it is just a matter of time before the S12 starts to become popular...people are starting to look for alternatives from the AE, and the S13 now...

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
The S12 sucks. It suckity suck suck sucks. No one else wants one ... in fact they're so terrible everyone should just give them to me.
Heh ...
I think the biggest factor holding them back is the zero appeal. They can't really be riced out, unless your gf is feeling nostalgic (and lived in the 80s) no girl will ever think of it as anything more than "cute".
Odds are you'll actually have to spend some underhood time on it too.
I would never call the S12 rare ... I see one pretty much every day (and no, not mine) just no one seems to care about them.
If I had a nickel for every blank stare I've gotten for chasing down a turbo S12 on the road to chat with the owner ....
Even S12 owners don't know what they have. Mind you most people with common sense don't push their S12s like we do, so they don't really get it.
That and no one ... no one ... NO ONE MAINTAINS THESE FRIGGING CARS!!!
EVERY S12 I've seen has the same bad camber, blown out back end doing the "fat kid on a see saw" down the road.
It's funny ... by all rights, the S12 was the last genuine "race bred" Silvia. I know everyone wants to argue, but that fact is, Nissan built these cars to be driven very hard, and it shows in the OEM equipment.
The $$$ you'd have to invest into an S13/14 just to get it on par with an S12 is pretty high. I know what everyone is thinking, but for starters, go find a factory S13 sway bar, then look at an S12.
One of them is hollow ... guess which ;)
Hopefully the drifiting fad will die out before the S12 gets too popular. The AE86s are already getting tired ...
I for one don't want to see the S12 price jump. You can't even touch an S13 for anywhere near what they used to cost 3 years ago.
I like my $300 car ... it doesn't like me, but I still like it :p

i don't own a s12, but i am in the dc area (on weekends, anyway). i personally hope no one finds out about these cars; they're like a little secret, heh. i'm hoping all the drifting stuff dies down, too, so people stop harassing me about my sr5. the lack of aftermarket support and jdm parts are why the s12 isn't more popular.
But the reason why there aren't more aftermarket parts is because the car has yet to be discovered...I still say that it will be more popular in the future; like it or not, it is just a matter of time. So with this in mind I would buy any S12 that you can find...
But Matt is right, the S12 was the last true race car (in the Silvia line), the last turbo Silvia that Nissan brought to NA too...considering what I put mine through, and I have only ever had one problem, which was a blown coolant line (and even then I was able to Macgyver it back home), and I know that I would have broken many differnet parts on other cars, really shows how well built these cars are...If I could afford it I would buy every last one that I saw, but that isn't going to happen any time soon...

hmmm. about a year ago when i had my first s12 a girl from venezula that was friends with my friends roommate thought that it was the bomb.... or actually in her words "pimp tight". maybe it is just american girls

**** girlfriends. my girlfriend thinks my car is "girlie" and "sick" just because it sounds manly and blows a bit of blue smoke. I have to put her in her place once in a while by randomly hitting up parking-lots/gravel patches to show her what she's sitting in
