I recognize that AE in the first picture, but the bottom link doesn't work for me...:|
s12 drifter
I only see the D1 AE86 Trueno of Katsuhiro Ueo...
I think... oops, is in order?
S12 - ae86... same 5hi7 different smell :o :)
Hehe come on ppl so many on here seem to mistake the trueno for the S12, they really aren't all that similar...

Your right Neb! I get that from customers all the time. People just think its an AE. This one guy cane in and said "Is that your car?"..... "Those are cool!"...... "They have alot of parts for these." (Then the record stops and the needle scratches off it) and then I ask him "So what car do you think I have?" He said "Toyota."
Hehe we don't get that here in oz cos we only got the levin shape without the pop ups, people here think it's an exa (cos i have the coupe)...just as bad :P....noooo it's rear wheel drive....
Man as soon as I seen that pic I knew it was an AE....our hatch looks way different. Ours is more elongated, as theirs looks a little more stubby...
Yeah, and the size difference to, the little hachi is just that, little. It's alot cleaner in it's lines than the S12 i think to. I park next to my sisters one every day so i get to see them pretty often :P They are fairly rare down here, and overpriced little buggers to.
Guys, I was there at the above pictured event with Marvin (Radracer) and our buddy (who pops in here now and then as "WankelMonkey"). This was actually two summers ago (Aug. 2003). We took a bunch of pictures and I think those two made a video, Marvin can you reacquaint the newer folks here with the media we collected that day.
We actually went again to a drift event one year later (that was this past August actually) at the same Irwindale Speedway. Last year the 8-6 won, this year was the new Pontiac GTO that took the trophy (shocker of shockers, Japanese judges leting the domestic win). The highlight of the last event was the 2G Viper drift car getting hammered by the S15 (although the S15's front end disintigrated while the Viper was not too bad off).
The 2G Viper drift cars, IMO, were pretty damned awesome and surprisingly good on the track.
Like I said, both years we took good pics and excellent video footage, as well as a whole lotta pics of Marvin, Greg, and I gettin up close and personal with all the Import girlie-babes (plenty o' pics). Marvin or Greg will have to provide all that for you guys I guess.

Nah it's all good it's still an import, only the GTO badges are domestic to you hehe
Commodores and Monaros are often looked down apon over here by import drivers to tho hehe.
Yes so I am told.
Sorry i just like to point that out cos i'm a git :P
Despite alot of people disliking the commo/monaro/GTO they do make good drifters, even in mostly street trim they go ok. Quite heavy but i've seen both the current shape and older ones go ok around the circuit.
Yea, wasn't the GTO released in Aus first?
Yes it was. Holden Monaro.
Australian built for american conditions... err hahahaha :lame:

GTO Monaro
http://www.globalcar.com/img/14649701.jpg
The monaro has been out in Australia for a few years now, it's just the 2 door version of the current shape commodore (popular oz family car, currentish shape started withthe VT model in 1997 or so and is carrying on to the VZ which was just released). The monaro hasn't really gotten any of the facelifts the commodore has tho so it looks rather dated at times. I think a new one is due out now tho.
People driving these cars always try to race me, i've beaten two monaros and FLY PSI has decimated a Commodore SS (250kw LS1 motor) much to the disgust of the driver :P
that ae86 was being sold up here in vanoucer,bc. Ueo owns a shop here and is very big with the drifters here :D
what's a git? slang for theif...err...I mean ...australian? ;)
heh heh,
this is funny, it almost makes me less ashamed of Holden to see how much the Americans are gobbling up the Commonwhore coupe.
As for that pic, sure it's not an S12 but it's a pretty hot hachiroku innit?
Side note: if anybody has an S12 HATCH sitting around, check my post in "Wanted To Buy".
God bless boys
Yeah the car is Ueo's 200ps NA Trueno.
Despite the apparent warm reception of the monaro in the US i still don't want one hehe. It is alot of people dream car around here tho, i remember someone saying to me a while ago 'what do you mean you reckon the monaro is crap..' he he he
Yeah it's funny huh?
Folks seem to assume that the best Australia has to offer somehow competes with what the rest of the world produces ...poor misguided fools.
Just out of interest, where's "around here"? You an NSW boy? I'm in ACT and I have an 84 S12 coupe the same colour as yours. There are only about another three or four S12 coupes in Canberra (according to a dude I spoke to from a local insurance group) and I'm looking to purchase a hatch (with IRS) to do up hence the post I put up about LSDs.
heh, a Git ... just a casual insult ... like dumbass.
The GTO ... that's lame.
Just FYI Holden is GM. GM is just trying to do what Ford and every other domestic company has done. Sell their eurobranded cars to North America. Just look at what the Locust ... I mean Focus has done here.
LS1 power in something that looks acres better than the Firechicken and Cremaro. I've never seen inside one, please tell me GM didn't design the interior on that one too. Anyone else think the LS1 Firehawk looks like a bulbous Sunbird? They have the same icky instrumentation too.
We should send the GoodDoctor to Oz.
Here's what we'll do ... we'll trade you Jeff for Ben D.
Heh, Jeff works with a race team (he'd hit me, but the name escapes me) in I believe the IROC class. They've got some nasty nasty LS1 vettes that they race.
The Ls1 is a remarkable motor ... I loathe GM, and I still have to give them that. The aftermarket finally picked up for it, and now 12s are bolt-ons away for LS1 owners.
Hehehehe ... does the Manero do the 1-4th lockout on the shifter? Man that's annoying. GMs gas saving idea. Under anything except for WOT, when you try and shift from 1 - 2, it locks you out and sends you straight to 4th.
it almost makes me less ashamed of Holden to see how much the Americans are gobbling up the Commonwhore coupe.
Actually, I wouldn't say they're gobbling it up. Might have something to do with the $35k price tag... It's kinda bad though, this is the car the GM people have been crying for ever since they killed the F-body, and then when GM does bring it, they want so much for it, we can't afford it.
So far I have seen a grand total of ONE GTO on the road. When are the car makers gonna get smart and actually make a car the average person can afford? That's why the Mustangs do so good, you can actually buy one... LOL...
I've never seen inside one, please tell me GM didn't design the interior on that one too.
Nope, the interior on this one actually is REALLY nice for a GM vehicle. I think the big three have finally realized that they are WAAAAAAY behind in interior quality compared to the Japanese and European cars. I would say that the GTO is probably the nicest interior of any GM car. No plastic crap pasted all over with uneven gaps. It was really noticeable in my parent's cars. They bought a brand new 2000 Grand Prix GT, then last year bought a slightly used 2003 Maxima. The Maxima is so much nicer inside even though it's cloth compared to the Pontiacs leather (maybe if it was REAL leather it would have been nicer  ).
OK, that's enough of my domestic car rantings for today. All you domestic haters go ahead and flame me, but I love all cars, imports and domestics (or semi-domestic in the case of the GTO).
Yeah I was just reading about the new 'stang, apparently the six cylinder model goes for less than a V6 Camry over there. Looks like a bit of a good buy.
my bad guys. i saw that pic and didnt even think about it being a toyota. my fault. however, while we are on the topic of trueno's and stuff like that. i did see in a magazine today that some tuner put the engine from an S2000 in a trueno. that would be pretty cool.
'Around here' i ment oz in general but i'm from Newcastle so a NSW boy.
Yeah Holden is part of GM, GMH or General Motors Holden it's called around here. They mostly sell euro cars here as holdens, as well as some izuzus. The Commodore is the only wholely (except the V8) oz car they sell. They are the most popular family car going over here but even the HSV (Holden Special Vehicle) versions with power outputs between 285 and 300kw (382hp and 402hp) are common despite their higher price. They aren't a bad looking car, i think the monaro is the worst looking of the lot tho, very bland. According to the local car magazines they lack the build quality of some jap and euro offerings (not to slag you but oz car mags have a very low respect for US build quality) but make up for it by being bigger and faster for less money. Also ppl can then buy HSV hats and put HOLDEN stickers on their windscreens hehe.
The LS1 motor seems like a good thing, there were alot of build quality and oil consumption issues when it first came out here, but i think they have fixed all that up now, local companies have good aftermarket support for it and it seems easy enough (if not particularly cheap) to extract huge power from them.
Yep. Saw that at D1GP this year that me and arro went to. Would have been cool to see who would win against a VIPER.
Side note: if anybody has an S12 coupe sitting around, check my post in "Wanted To Buy".
God bless boys
I got one for sale 8-)
I got one for sale 8-)
Oh sorry dude, my mistake. I meant to type hatch!!! I've edited my post and corrected it, I have no excuse ...I'm just retarded. Hope you do manage to sell your coupe though.
I already have a coupe and I really want to do up a hatch as a drift car. No turbo planned, but LSD with a warmed over CA18DE (cams, custom extractors, I might do something to it but that's how it is now and I'm happy with that to start with) and S13 trans.
But hey, let me know if you see/hear of anything, I want a hatch with IRS, good panels and interior but mechanical condition doesn't really matter because I have the engine and trans already.
Sweet, seeya bro
Yep. Saw that at D1GP this year that me and arro went to. Would have been cool to see who would win against a VIPER. I saw that AE also at the D1. I went to the one in Feb. and last year in Aug. I was the first one in the gates both times. I camped out in the parking lot with the nascar guys didn't pay for parking either.:)
