Let's make this an evolving how-to. How to upgrade your CA18ET setup to a forward-facing CA20E intake manifold. A couple guys on here have shown some pictures of this installed, but that doesn't help out much for those of you yet to do this but still interested in possibly trying it.
A couple years ago I picked up a truely shiny clean pristine CA20E intake manifold and took pictures of it:

OK, so I put numbers to this thing and THAT will be the next post.
CA20E intake manifold on a CA18ET engine

Below are pictures listing the various connections on a CA20E intake manifold.

Now, we need someone to take pics of the CA18ET and number the connections, and then someone like KaZ or westside to match up things in a list, and mention what needs to be eliminated or combined or added.
My cylinder head with a CA18DET manifold:

CA18DET intake works???? :O
I thought that one was a CA20E lower with a KA24E upper? I've seen that pic before, definetly an interesting piece. No a CA18DET intake won't work without modification, the DET has two intake ports per cylinder, since it's got the staged plates in the intake...
that is a DE top plenum tig welded to a CA20E bottom plenum.
This was the pic I was searching for, because the KA24E uses the same plenum.
Which is similar to the ca20e, only
a) comes ready for a 60mm TB
b) has a lot more volume
As soon as I can get my hands on a ca20e bottom (I'm serious, or I'll just fricking make one)
I've got the plenum waiting for it, but I need to build 2 of them
The DET plenum comes in 2 pieces. You undo it and the cut the ET pipes off, and weld the ET on in its place. The actual body of the plenum is untouched, only the right hand side of the tubes (looking at the pic).
I'd say the DET is probably a better manifold, as it it designed to take a charge where as the CA20 isn't. It would be interesting to know if any ports on the CA20 suffer any noticeable difference in flow when turbocharged.
This is what Arro is trying to do...

CA18ET w/ CA20E Intake Manifold & KA24DE Throttle Body
Oh hey Arro... I had one other thought a few weeks ago... the FWD CA20E engines... the intake manifold points the other way... the bolt setup and ports are exactly the same geometrically, i.e. you could actually flip the top part around... so for better clearance shorter Intercooler to Throttle body run I was thinking of trying to get a FWD CA20E Upper Manifold and try using it... it would move the throttle body to the passenger side about oh 4" or more... would almost be a straight shot from my intercooler... =) something to think about...
I got hold of a FWD ca20 manifold and the ports dont match up if you flip the top part around 180 degrees if i can get hold of a cam i'll get some pics posted up as its hard to explain. It could possibly be made to work with a bit of port matching (well quite alot) and maybe an adapter plate.
KaZ the pic is worth a thousand words, thanks lots.
And yeah Jim is right, I don't think they reverse.
Say Jim, did you replace your S12?
I sold it last week, i didnt (still dont) have any time for it with uni and work. In the past 3 years i put around 3000 miles on it.
I might be looking at getting somthing older like a mk2 ford escort or somthing like that, but that wont be for a while. Ive got money comming out of my ears but no time to spend it!
travis is using a ca20e intake mani on his car too if I'm not mistaken
I guess I'll have to look at it again, but mine looked pretty symetric... maybe my eyes were playing tricks on me... =(

Ford?!
Euro Ford ... not USDM Ford, think old rally, ahhh f*k it.
these cars are awesome ... I've seen maybe 1 in my life over here.

Didn't you have one before? I thought I remembered you posting pics of it.
Anywho ...
I'm telling you guys ... for big plenums, you can't go wrong with KA + CA20e
unlike the ca18, the ca20 and KA manifolds are 2 piece, so literally you don't even have to cut anything, just get someone to TIG them together.
That would be only for big power application.
Ive had 2 mk1's before.

That one had a 1740 vulcan race engine on 40's.
That was my old one, i had another one that was striped out with a rollcage and 2 bucket seats and a 20l engine on 45's but ive got no good pics of that one.
I might go for either a ZETEC 16v conversion or maybe even a cossy 20L turbo engine next time, ford made it easy as they always use the same bolt pattern on their engines and gearboxes.
Here is one engine I have build.Crankpower around 170 hp
Sorry for this Ford offtopic mambojambo

That is correct. I've got most of the vaccum lines done up and some of the electical wiring done. The standard CA18ET harness needs some alterations for it to work on the CA20E mani. The next big hurdle is to get some heater hoses going.
