Exhaust dump valve thingy. lookie here.

I whipped this ugly thing together at "work" today and thought you folks would find this interesting.

I realize its a little rough (read as ghetto) but I plan to run a glasspack on the switched route and when the butterfly valve closes it forces exhaust through a walker turbo muffler. Go from a hum to a howl with the flip of a switch. Riduculous waste of time I know but it was mostly to see if It could be done. Enjoy

Yeah I used the door lock actuator from a camry and eyeballed the butterfly valve (plate) and I was actually pretty pleased with it. I've bench tested it so I just have to put it on my car and get some sort of heat sheilding

Haha the only difference is they want 235 bucks american and mine cost about 5 bucks canadian (about 50 cents american) and for some reason they put the pipe at a 90 degree angle to the main pipe. I think the one I built might actually flow better cause of the 45 degree angle of the secondary pipe. Or maybe I'me talking out my ass, you just never know. BTW If any of you folks want one I could either show you how I built this one or build another one to sell for like 30-50 bucks.

That other one is cool cuz its vacuum activated... But controlling it when you want is cool too.

Would having that one closed until boost builds affect your spool up? Your engine would have to push exhaust through the muffler until it reaches whatever boost pressure that wastegate can is set to so it would only help you after your turbo is already spooled up. Once again I may be talking out my ass.

what would be cool ... is using that camry solenoid, but instead of using a manual switch, rig it to open off the WOT switch on the TPS.

If you wanted to be super super super fancy ... you could gut an old tachometer with a programmable shift light. Snip off the shift light bulb, wire that as the electrical signal to your solenoid.

Then you can have exhaust bypass at a programmable RPM. That way in peak power you'll have open exhaust.

Or to waste even more time (I love doing stuff like this too) you could use a pressure switch to activate it. Then you can have it open up at a specific boost level.

All in all ... I love it.

I was thinking of mounting that switch and my high/low boost switch on the shifter rod within finger reach (anybody seen Mad Max haha) so I don't have to move my hand to switch them. Don't let anybody tell you they can waste more time on junk like this than me.

what about using a waste gate actuator to do the same thing.... as the boost rises it creeps open?
